Diff Ratio for 33 inch tyres

I have an 89 Rangie with a ZF auto and I am going to do the Toyota centre conversion when funds permit.

I am running 33 inch tyres and I plan to go for the 4.3 ratio instead of the 4.1 to give me a bit more low down performance. The 4 speed auto ZF seems to run pretty low revs at 100km per hr.

Do you think it will rev too hard at 100kph with the 4.3 ratio's or what?????

Thanks from Shane.

4.1s would be ok, (i was running 37s with 3.54) and it wasnt to bad.
but hey slower is better, so 4.3 would be my choice, but i beleive they may be harder to come across.

speaking of 33 inch tires...will standard amge rover 10 spline diffs and axles hold up to 33's?

If you drive like a girl they might. I have wheeled twice since fitting 33's and I have broken 3 diffs and twisted the right hand side inner axle. They didn't brake in the crownwheel and pinion but in the centre pin in 2 of them and in the output cogs in the 3rd. In their defence, they were old diffs. The twisted front axle could still work if desperate.
My rear 10 spline axles are still good.

Well, I've been out once in my 84 rangie which is stock other than lift, with 34x11.5 Jungle Trekker 2s, gave it a fair bootful couple times in second, and broke nothing but a steering damper....... I think it depends a lot on the condition of your car......

Drive like a panzy and they will last longer but it's only a matter of time, they WILL break eventually with that sort of rolling diameter and if you ain't broken your standard centre or axles in the rear you must be driving like the rule says you should. However the front generally will cope for quite some time and reasonable abuse. All pending of the condition in the first place.

So does that mean I can get the 4.3 ratios front and rear out of a Bundera or 100 series and rear out of 4 Runner. How about the toyota surf. Is this just the petrol models???
