Feroza Air Conditioning Compressor

Post by FROZY »

Gday all i am interested in finding an airconditioning compressor for my 96 wide track feroza to be used as a pump for tyres, air horns etc. There are options such as an "endless air" compressor but its quite pricy and it doesn't come with the ribbed type pulley as the later model feroza runs. Second hand would be perfect but i will need all the brackets that are needed to bolt it on to the motor.

Has anyone else done this to thier feroza?

You can probably change the pulley from V to ribbed on the compressor.

The endless air compressors come in a few different models but not for a feroza. They do have a universal model which just has a bracket that can be welded on to existing brackets to fit. I did consider using this but then theres the problem of finding a ribbed pulley to put on it. I can see it snowballing and taking a fair bit of fabrication to get it all lining up.

The other option was to find a feroza compressor which would bolt straight in but probably wouldn't put out as much volume, This wouldn't bother me too much as i would link the compressor with a tank to store the compressed air.

the only thing im not sure on is would the aircon compresser need to have a constant oiler or just occasionally put some oil in the line

The compressors are usually lubricated by the air conditioning fluid but when used as an air compressor you do need to lube it up. I have seen it set up in a landcruiser and the bloke justs gives it a squirt of oil each service, but i guess that depends on how often you use it i guess.

There is oil in the aircon system- the actual aircon gas doesn't perform any lubrication.

Yeah i guess thats right. The compressors i have seen have a grease nipple. How offten you have to grease it up will be depending on how regular you use it from what i have heard.

There are no grease nipples on the Feroza compressors. Some compressors have "sump" plugs to drain the oil- but my Feroza doesn't. Had to fill the oil via one of the refrigerant lines.

Cool thats not too hard to do i guess if your only using it an air compressor.
The in line would eighther be hooked into your origional air filter system by drilling a hole or just put some kind of after market filter on such as a fuel filter or something along those lines. In eighther case the oil top up should only need to be done once in a while and it would just be a matter of removing the filter conection and filling it up.

I will be keeping an eye out for one in the wreckers around perth but most of them don't have ferozas. Does anyone know if the applause compressor would fit?

Should do- FWD engines are no different in that area.
