hey i posted in the auto electrical part and not enough replies for what im looking for

so my story is i have a 24v winch on my 12v system the plan is run 3 batteries one for the 12v system and the other two just for the winch but just using the one alternator to charge all 3 i know it will stuggle at time but apparently alot of guys run this system i want to know do you just splice into the alternator wires and charge all 3 batteries at the 14v charge the one alternator puts out????????

you need a couple solenoids so that when charging the batteries are in paralell, (12v) but when winching they are in series (24v)

means you cant use your altenator to help you winch.

so by having all three battries charging at once the two that are connected in series are going to short the alternator out
unless i have a solenoid putting them back to paralell

No, there's a bit of confusion I think.

If you really want to do this you will need one 12V alternator for the stock battery, and one 24V alternator for the two that are in series.

This is the simplest way of doing it if you have room for three batteries and you're determined to run a 24V winch.

You can do it with two 12V alternators but it's so complex it's definitely not worth it.

you can do it with one alternator as above. and you need to charge/winch seperatly otherwise you will shortcircuit. a 24v alt as well is definatly the go as mentioned. but cost wise a 6hp 12v may be the go for simplicity, and overall cost effectiveness.

i have 12v winches but i will seperate so the winch batteries always charge but the main charges only when not winching to keep ecu voltage stable, so its sorta the opposite. this make safety switches easy too
