They are a really neat fit, just a small amount of trimming.

well..... was this a stuff up!!!!
I fitted them to my spare radiator to make the mounting, then pulled out the radiator today to mount it, thinking simple 2min job, 2hours later not finished!!!

the inlet & outlets are bigger so they get in the way, so more stuffin around tomorrow to finish the job

well they are on

I reckon these things could suck a golf ball through a garden hose faster than screwy
They were abit of a pain to work out how to mount to the real radiator, but rather simple really.
I have used a 200amp dual battery islolator as my relay so i figure i'll never burn it out with a 15amp load
I've taken it for a spin & it works nice, going to add a timer to it so it keeps running after i turn the car off, because i left the fans on whilst in supercheap for 10 mins & the block temp had dropped down to 60 deg rather thatn the normal 100 deg which it would be at after stopping it, so they are a big thumbs up by me
Pics, close fit

cunnie funt about the golf ball
with that temp rise, it only goes up once motor is stoppped cause of lack of flow of water to the cooling medium.......
as soon as you start the motor again it should come straight back down the temp it was running at previously.......
you really dont need to have the fans running after, as even though it cools the water thats in the radiator while your engine is stopped, there is no circulation so the rest of the water remains at high temp cause of lack of water pump..... when you start up that cooler water goes through the system hense cooling the temp down....
but if your motor is stitting at about 85/90 degress around and goes up 10 or 15 when off, it should drop straight down on startup, Mine does
they look neat in there though thats for sure, ive just put my engine fan back on to my discust whilst i save up for a new set of AU twins....

Looking good, your motor sits a hell of a lot closer to the radiator than mine does.

Yep, no argument's from me here on that, it just get's a little hot, so i figure no harm in leaving them running for a few minutes after i turn it off, so that way its nice & cool 5mins later when i jump back in to drive some where, it was just an idea i'm thinkin of doin

Well if you have a look at the difference between Mkpatrolguys & mine, he has his up the correct way, but that wouldn't work on mine do to the large pipe size, so its also a thing to think about.
And god damm there is a difference in poition of motor

But dave i'll show ya tuesday night at the meeting
Thermo's are great, now to fix the water leaks from the pump

Has anyone tried this on a GQ. How have you wired it up. What happens with the existing fan and hub assembly.

What motor have you got???
And what condition is your radiator in???
Do you have a bodylift???
Have you checked thermostat???
The reason's ask are:
*If its an L28 like i use to have the run really cool, cos i could always touch the side of mine even after given it shit whilst out 4wding. The diesel always run cool also.
* I bought myself a brand new radiator & wow what a difference!!!
*If you have a body lift the engine fan & radiator will no longer line up, but this can esily be fixed but modding the mounts to lower the radiator, i did this in my red patrol which had a 3" bodylift & overheating problem went
* Your thermostat could be clagged up & sticking, buy a new one they are cheap
The reason i went thermo's is because yes it was getting warm & i like the idea for slow wheeling, and the chev produce's a bit of heat. But you must be aware that you need to wire them in such a way you can flick a switch to overide them b4 doing anyway crossing's etc... & also carrying the engine fan in the car whilst out wheeling wouldn't be a bad idea incase you fill one with mud & kill them
Cheers
Andrew
As for with the GQ, the radiator's are smaller so i think EL thermo's are the go, but like i said previously, have you checked the rest of it first?

I got a 84 MK 3.3 TD. Radiator looks to be not that old, but not that new. Might get it replaced b4 mod'ing if if thats what your recommending. I have a 2'ch body lift to put it in it. The old temp seems to vary from 1/3 to just over half depending on the outside temp. Offroad it sits on 1/2 but on hill climbs seems to rise a bit.

well a new radiator isn't going to hurt it, mine was $300 ish
Definately lower it if your doing a body lift & not installing thermo's cos that way the fan & radiator line up but if installing thermo's no need
By the way, the thermo's, so far very nice

If you want to have them running for a bit to cool the motor down after you turn it of just take the power from the battery (fused of course) - not switched by ignition,
Even when the motor is off the water can still thermo syphon around to a degree - the cooler water in the rad goes down and is replaced by warm water from the motor at the top, probably wouldn't be a lot tho.
I set mine up with two switches, one can manually turn the fans from 'auto' to 'on' and the other switch is one of those aircraft switches when i flick it, it cuts the fans for water crossing e.t.c. i was worried that i'd forget i turned them back on so i hooked it up so if the fans are disabled and the engine reaches the set temp for the fans to come on a buzzers sounds! When the ignition is turned off however all of the switches are deactivated and the fans just run in auto, just took a few reays and a buzzer and works great.

they are very similar fans for EL - EF to AU snd easy to get a hold of thru most wreckers
