recently i fitted an air con pump to run as a compresser, it feeds a tank under vehicle and works great. does anyone know what sort of switch i can run so that it switches itself off and on?
At the moment i am just using a toggle switch and 150lb preasure release valve which is great for scaring crap out of people but thats about it.
also would switch be better in tank or up at pump. Cheers

i havent fitted mine yet or givin much thought to it, but was thinking of running two pressure switches. One to turn clutch on when pressure was low and another to turn clutch off at the high point. Also master off switch.
You could probably use one pressure switch, but i would worry about low dwell periods, ie clutch comming off and on too frequantly.

I used a pressure switch off a industrial air compressure, that sell for about $80 bucks, and are adjustable high and low pressures, these are common as, but a little bullky,

Buy the ARB switch loom ect, can get all the bits seperately and u wont need to do it again when you get lockers.Works out cheap.

Anyone know if one can be "salvaged" from a car/truck wreckers?
Anything come out requiring a pressure switch? Truck air brakes?
(I know nothing about trucks)

Truck air tanks have pressure relief valves.
Ive often wondered about the compressor and airtank setup from a truck.. complete

But do they also have a switch to turn the compressor (clutch) on and off?

i just used an arb pressure switch then run it though a soliniod but it works a treat as for lockers you dont want any more than 100psi. there only 30 bucks and should have them in stock

the best way to get all the stuff you need is to buy a super cheap or simillar 240v compressor for $99. a mate put his name down and ended up getting one with a dud motor for $35 from sc. you get safty valves, tank, gauges some have switches etc

I bought a brand new pressure switch for a 240 compressor - about $20 from QLD tradetools. The switch doesn't mind if it switches 240V or 12V, and is adjustable on and off pressures - i.e. stops at 120psi, starts again at 80psi, or whatever you want...

G'day Uted,
I did the same as what you have done on a LR Discovery. I used the ARB switch as it just screws into the manifold you have on your guard (or it did on mine). Then just run your power through that and to the compressor. Its easy.
Mark.
