Having read thru the comments in "The Book of Winches" and never seen one of these units working, can someome tell me how slow is slow?

standard is like doing a double line pull on a high power electric winch. There is quite a lot you can do to make it run quicker. It's mostly about getting volume through the winch. The setup of the rest of the vehicle is just as important and needs to be matched to your winch. Bill Lynes patrol runs a hydrolic winch that isn't as quick as the big high mounts but he is running an auto gearbox and can match the wheel speed to the winch speed therefore not having wheel spin. This unloads the winch and ends up being quicker cause it doesn't get bogged down on difficult winch walls. ;)
