parabolics

Post by stage1slave »

Is there another brand of parabolics available in this country, other than Rocky Mountain?
After only being fitted for 12 months or so,the fronts have sagged considerably. The 4 leaf rears are still as new.

I think there are also Ti-Console parabolics. The agent is in WA I think??? If you were happy with them, why not find a spring works that can reset (and most importantly re-temper) them.

Have you talked to the place you bought them from (FWD?)?

Hi, thanks BEN, FWD have quoted me $600 odd for a new set of 2 leaf fronts. Was hoping they could supply 3leafs,but no. I guess it's the weight of the 4bd1 that's done it.
If I was to get them re-tempered, how long could I expect them to last? The vehicle they are fitted on rarely sees any 4wding. Due to the fact that, all the places we used to go in a 100km radius, are now either flash housing estates or equally as flash, golf courses.

RM only make 2 leaf fronts. They have been fitted to 4BD1 stage 1's before without problems though. A mate of mine was the australian agent for RM - (later sold rights to FWD), and he had a 4BD1 stage 1 with them fitted.

I suspect that there may have been a tempering problem to start with if they sagged. If you can find a good spring works that can reset and re-temper them properly you should easily be able to get a few years (minimum) out of them before having to do them again. Should be under $100 to reset and retemper the pair (if you remove and refit them). Make sure they will re-temper - many spring places just reset and they will sag again quickly.

Yeh, thanks Ben. I will give Southside Springs in Gympie a call. They have always been the be all to end all on the Sunshine Coast, and I know they are not abject to workin' on old Landrovers unlike most of the new trendy joints in Maroochydore.

It's Friday night and the beers are tastin' good!
