What is your crawl ratio, and what ratio would you like.??
I will start it, ATM I have 74.52 to 1 but after Xmas I will have 245.088 to 1 and every thing in b tween with an auto if I kept the 5 speed I would have had 441.158 to 1.
I know some people say anything over 100 to 1 is unusable, but when you factor in 52" tires it changes everything.
Also you dont need to use 1st low low all the time. 8)
OK your turn.

ha chezzy , Did you allow for a possible 2-1 with your torque convertor?
I have about 90-1, Great for me .
wouldnt be fussed for much more if it meant more wieght.
Some people consider to low a ratio no good for geaneral purpose eg:no speed in reverse ,for mud rocking.

No Dozoor, I didnt factor in the convertor, and yes for general purpose 245 to 1 is a bit much, but remember my rig is used 75% for comps, but I dont have to have both transfers in low and can raise my low to 66.25 to 1 and thats still in 1st gear, and no still not factoring in convertor and 52" tires. Still can take off in 2nd or 3rd. By the way, what is MUD.

i was going to go 459:1 but the more thought that i put into it the crazier i relised it was, and like you say cheezy a waste of time.
I am now going toyota dualcase with a 4.7 reduction in the second case, so i will have all the benefits of standard low range through to 223.1
Americans seem to be real big on crawl ratio, and fair enough when you well on rock that is dry and hard like pavement, add some water or small amounts of mud like we get here and i think that these crawl ratios would be more of a step backward in the moment feild. the verlosity or forward momentium would be out weighed by the gravitational downward pull when trying to climb step faces, especially the longer more gradiant ones.

have a lowly old stock zook running gear , Im screwed !!!!
standard = 30.9 : 1 (with 33" tryes , even worse !!!)
wat i want(stok diffs) = 83.5 : 1 = thats with 6.1 x-case only !!!!
in the USA you can get 5.8 diff ratios !!!
takes it to = 130.5 : 1 !!!!!!
that would be nice !!!!!

The light weight of the zook helps out, though it's still nice to have hell low gearing. The setup I am putting together gives me 60:1, plus the reduction that the auto gives. If I put rockhopper gears in one case i'd be at 100:1 plus the reduction of the auto. Put a rockhopper in both cases ($$$) and it'd be at about 240:1 plus the reduction of the auto

Read an article in an American mag a while back and they thought if you got a big V8 motor then about 100:1 is what you want working up to a small 4cylinder where you need aroung 200:1. (anything with an auto they counted the auto as a 2:1 reduction)
My rig had 60:1 which was really bad (although the motor was totally stuffed) Now its got 85:1 with a healthy rover motor which is fairly good. Before it could climb a 3foot verticle rock with my foot off the clutch but I had to time it and hit the accleratror to stop it from stalling. Now at the 85:1 I can do the same thing without touching the accelerator and also Im travelling a lot slower which gives you more time to think and get your line right without riding the clutch. At 85:1 putting both front tyres on something 3 foot tall I just need a little accelerator if I keep the motor at about 800rpm it wont stall.
My next rig will be at about 140:1 in first and 73:1 in second with a 302 Windsor, NP435,NP208 and mog axles. So this should be farken awsome.

My crawl ratio is an pathetic 47.5....Good thing I'm only running 36" tyres....
Currently plans of a T18 tranny (6.32), Dana300 (4:1 teralow) with my 4.56 diff ratos will see 115.3.....
But in the meantime I'll just have to be content with racing down the hills

I'm cranking at 34.81
Jan/Feb will be working to get some custom low range gears cut, bringing me to a more healthy 89 or so...should be good with only 31s. After SAS that will go to about 96 with the 5.71 R&Ps

I have been reading on Pirate that the Yanks have been having probs with the Dana 300 TeraLow gearsets stripping teeth and the like.

Yeah I know - I've been watching that....
Also Tera's lack of backup on warranty seems pretty poor - I've seen many complaints also about the Tera 231 teralow (TJ) & Tera not honouring....
Wonder if the wife would let me Atlas it :p

131.8 crawl ratio, should turn the 36's easy enough.
Even at 5000 RPM that only works out at 5.2 km per hour.

Just show her some of the busted gears, then tell her buying the Atlas 2 will save money in the long term....
I'm sure she will see the sense

Mine works out at about 116:1 which should be enough as the old Zook was only 76:1 and it crawled well.

~85:1. I think that is the best I can get using a manual in a short GQ.

damn, just worked mine out at 39.82 which is heaps better than the 35.39 it came as standard so with the marks or rockhoppers it should get 70 odd and still be able to do outback trips.
