n00b with diesel wants turbo...questions ensue

Hey guys
I'm kinda new to the whole diesel 4b thing, i'm learning fast but need a little advice.
I have a 94 4runner that i want to turbo and i've found the price of kits rather prohibitive. I've decided to go the hard way and do it all from scratch. i'm hoping to complete the whole thing for around $1500 total.
I'll take a heap of pics and document as many steps as i can so others can learn from my stuff ups... hopefully there won't be too many.
I'm getting some guages from www.egauges.com (found the link in here somewhere) including a Pyrometer / EGT. What is the best position for the sensor as i'm having the manifold made up it can be before or after the turbo. What would be the temp limit given the position?
I read somewhere there is about 150oC drop from engine to dump pipe so if it was in the dump pipe would i be looking at ~600oC tops?
As far as upping the fuel goes is it just a matter of using the max fuel screw till there is just a little smoke under full/heavy load? since i have an EGT guage would i be better using it as a tuning guide?
Does the oil feed for the alternator supply enough oil to feed the turbo as well? ditto with the return line? or does it need a seperate feed/return?
Any help/advice is much appreciated
Cheers
