I have been able to track down a second hand complete PTO for the MQ. Is there anything I should be particually careful of when looking at it? How much are the worth usally? Is it possible to make it suit a 4sp box eventhough the output shaft is designed for a 5sp box?

on the pto winches i have had experience with the difference was the gear that goes on the back of the gear box, as the shaft coming out has different splines for 4 & 5 speeds, australian tipping systems in bayswater still has the gears in stock new but the price maybe a bit expensive.

at least with the pto you don't have to worry about flat batteries

I would like to go for the PTO option... but the problem being everytime the MQ is on the sligthtest incline oil leaks from the overflow pipe out the back of the engine.... & last time i checked the engine had to be going to power the winch... maybe pipe could be redirected....

:
The Pto will fit ur mq box whether it is 4 spd or 5spd the pto box bolt on the side fo the gear box not on the back as some one said earlier.
Yes the gear boxs are different but it is the internal spline shaft of the main cogs no the cogs that the pto gears run on.
You will have to shorten on of the shafts by approx 110 mm as a 5 spd is 110mm futher back, thats easie though and cheap as to do.
Keep in mind all that i said is advice and nit gosple.
And all this is in ref to Mq patrols who's gearbox and transfer are all bolted together.
Hope this helps.
