Dont the guys running hydro asist on pirate run an extra port on the stock power steer pump so it runs the stock steer and the hydro?
This is just from memory I may be wrong.

Most people use the Saginaw style pump which comes from most early V8 Holdens also Chevs and Fords. They are the Tear Drop looking pump.

on the power steer box - they drill and tap the box to get the fluid

Just wondering
Is Hydro assist road legal?
and does it make the steering too light for highway use?

It is road legal, if it is ASSIST that way you still have full machanical connections I have driven mine for an hour at highway speeds, but my pump was fawked, and it made it a lot easier to steer even with a fawked pump. Steering is similar, but a little slower on street, awesome offroad. It is very expensive, and not something I would recommend having gone down that path. You would be better of making sure your factory power steering setup is all working properly first!

I know you didnt ask me cplux, but mine being such a similar setup I thought I would chime in:

1.5" x 8" single ended Ram, with Clevis ends from PTE hydraulics. Cost in the "couple hundred" for a ram. If I was to do it again, it would be a two way ram straight up, yet at around triple the cost, I would think twice!

Tapping box and fittings = $77
Ram = I bottle of Jim Beam $32
Hoses = Not mounted yet
Mounts = $4 worth of steel + a few bolts that I have to get yet
Resiviour = Free - thanks Sam
ATF cooler = $90
Filter = $10

Should be done soon will make a start tomorrow arvo. Won't be taking any process pics but may take some finished ones if you're lucky.

Don't know if the ram will suit my needs but I couldn't argue with the price :D

Still unsure if I'll have to mod the P/S pump yet.
