Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Howdy,

I'm on the prowl for a Santana 5-speed out of an Isuzu 110.

Has anyone seen one of these in the recent past? I've been informed that the bell housing on anything other than the LT95 and the LT85 made for the isuzu 110 won't fit.

btw does anyone know the high range transfer ratio on the LT230 in these?
Was it 1.22:1 same as discos?

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

110's with the Isuzu engine were only ever fitted with the LT95 or LT85 (Santana design) gearbox from the factory. They have a different bellhousing for the Isuzu engine.

I saw recently that Santana still make the LT85, but I wouldn't waste time trying to get a bellhousing for an Isuzu engine from Santana or Ashcroft, as this was only available in Australia.

Dave Ashcroft stated in a thread on pirate that he doesn't think LT85's are worth bothering with as the late model R380 is just as strong and easier to get hold of (not sure If I agree on the strength part).

The LT85 is indeed still being made. I have some pictures of a brand new santana PS110 (defender copy) which I will post when I download them from my camera.

Santana in Australia ??.... Didn`t have idea about this.

So,

I could find a drowned or stacked isuzu 110 and pilfer the gearbox along with the bellhousing which probably isn't a regular occurrence.

If anybody knows of one, or has one in the 'going to get to it one day' pile out the back, let me know.

2 more questions:

How many Isuzu 110's were produced? including the army ones which have probably ended up on the road?

How different is the bolt pattern on the gearbox side of an Isuzu/LT95 bellhousing to another 5 speed??
Is it possible to mate another gearbox? LT77/Torqueflite/R380/Patrol etc etc ? (Of course then I'd have to find the 1:1 LT230 to go with it)

Good luck. They are VERY hard to find. Most people wanted V8s at the time and most people want the diesels now.

I think the 4BD1 bolt pattern is the same as a 350Chev, but rotated by...?? degrees. It MIGHT be possible to use an LT95 bellhousing an modify it to suit the Lt85. Both trans have long input shafts i think, so you might have to do a fair bit of cutting and welding on the engine and gearbox end of the bellhousing to make it fit... I believe that DELLOW in Sydney made the original bellhousings for J.R.A (L.R OZ at the time) It would probably be easier to use an IZUZU 6sp and fab an adaptor to suit the transfer..

I know it's old and leaf sprung, but our series3 stage 1 with 4bd1 has a Ford auto ,C4/C???, and the original transfer case.
BRILLIANT Conversion! We were gonna do away with it, until we drove it . Haven't had the said vehicle in low range yet. Gotta love that!

No, not in OZ, I am in Germany at the moment. The one I photographed was in france. No reason why they couldn't be sold in OZ though. Someone should start a dealership.
