GU Auto - ATP Light and Grinding noise in "P"

when I start the car there is an "ATP" light on the dash, when i put it in to reverse or drive or anything it dissapears, but when i put it back into park there is a loud grinding noise for a second
, and the light comes back on???
its a 3.0 TD...
HELP!!

it's the auto park lock warning

it's to warn you to either shift to high or low range before parking the vehicle in park
