GU a/cond issues

Mate at work has a 2002 GU TD 4.2 Wagon and the computer keeps shutting off the air conditioner.
Apparently it does this when it senses an overheating engine so that further load and heat isnt put onto the engine.
He took it to the Nissan dealer who couldn't find anything wrong but obviously something is.
Anyone got any clues on this?
