Lookin thru an old 4x4 trader, I saw an old troopy (same shape as 40 series), and it had a 5.1ltr 6cyl Perkins in it.

Anyone know about this donk?

Yep, they were fitted to a lot of International Accos.......and tractors! Lots of em in truck wrecking yards, so good for parts! They were an absolute slug to drive in a small truck, very low revving from memory and no balls at all, I wouldn't even entertain the idea in a 4wd myself. One of the first trucks I drove had one in it and it was a POS, gutless bucket of shite, anyway I didn't like it much :x :bad-words: :bad-words:
The newer perkins phaser which was a turbo motor was a big improvement but still a better boat anchor than a motor! My 2c worth.

Cheers,

Paul

bit of a slug .... in a truck yes, but in a cruiser sized rig would be a fair performer, (unless you're one of these turkeys who insists on comparing diesel 4X4s to their old V8 torana/charger/falcon)

I had the smaller version (4litre /247cu in) in a four tonner and was not short on grunt. The 5.1 job is quite a torquey donk, and would be reasonably good on juice in the troopy.

Was it a white troopy?

I saw one over here with a perkins in it. Not sure if it was a 6 or a 4 mind you.

This one had a flip front and when he hit the mud the bonnet flipped forward from the mud ingress. :)

cheers

Did you want info on the motor or the troopy itself with the perkins?

We used to have an '81 F100 with factory fitted Perkins. Bit of a slug on the highway but good in the bush. It was easily the best part of the truck.

Also know a bloke who put one in his 40 series 6X6. He loves it.
