Bundera heating up

Hi all,
I just bought a '86 Bundera turbo diesel (2.4 4 cylinder). Took it out wheeling on the w/e and goin up a big hill in 2nd low range it heated up right up to the red on the heat gauge. It was revving at 4g all the way up. Is this simply because of the lack of air flow and hi revs? It also heats up on the freeway to about half way. Any advice? I searched and couldnt really find any.

a mate of ours had a similiar problem with his 2.4 TD his problem was a cracked head
hope its nothing like that in your case but it might be something to look at if the really easy things dont fix it

Better service the radiator and use coolant. Basically its about normal.

I had a similar problem with my 80, turns out all I had to do was top up the fluid in the viscus fan hub.
I don't know if you run a viscus fan clutch but if you do it is a easy thing to do your self.
Someone posted a step by step manual on how to do it, (I think is was dumbdunce), and I just followed that. Thanks again to whoever did post that.

it probably would not hurt to replace the thermostate while doing all this work and even check all hoses n belts too
then you know you have covered the cooling system

I'll have a look for the fan thread, did that just get the fan spinning quicker?

Would if be heating up because its non intercooled? Would a little intercooler for the stock turbo keep the heat down? Any thoughts..

My thoughts is to take it to a radiator place and have it presure tested. It may save alot of stuffing around.

This happened to us after a rough run and a snatch recovery involving mud, bottomed out diff, front end in the muck.
Small hairline crack meant that the radiator didn't circulate well when stationary. On the move, the needle went down.
Radiator patch fixed it.
THEN... couple months later, while idling at the lights, WOOOMPH, redline. Pressure test revealed mega problems. Opened her up, crack in the head above each cylinder. $2300 later, new head, all good.
