Wheel Bearings

Hey, ages ago when i got a wheel balance and alignment done i got told my wheel bearings were loose so i paid a bit extra for something to be tightened (was that just a bit of a rip off)

recently another mechanic has told me my wheel bearingsn are fucked... how can i be sure that they are and how can i check?

Also to change these is it hard? i notice they only cost like $70 but is it a big job to have them changed?

Cheers
Ben

if you follow a manual you should be right. otherwise it depends on you experience and if youve done them before. Ive done it a couple of times now and it would take me between an hour and 1 and a half hours per side. Im sure by some peoples standards thats pretty slow.

I'm in the middle of putting together a web site/shop which will handle a massive range of aftermarket Suzuki 4WD parts. We will have Sierra front wheel bearing kits for $47.00 (Japanese bearings) a side.

I had to do mine last week, 1st time we done them, so yea um.. it helps if u knwo wat your doing, ne one from here u can go and watch tighten theirs? or get them to show u hwo to do it would be best as then u will know how to do it from then on.

To test how bad they are move the top fo the tyre in and out when the cars on the ground and then do it again when the wheels jacked intot he air, they shouldnt move much, a lot of slop isnt good..

Has anybody tried to see if the Vitara preloaded wheel bearings can be used as the internal and external dimensions are the same.

The coily does use the Vitara wheel bearing, however won't fit a leaf model. Maybe the coily hub will fit the leaf models, as the king pin set up is the same. It would just depend on steering arms etc.

It's a little hard to decipher but going by the picture and decription I'd say per side.

Ey podge, can you get the swivel hub seals n scraper rings kit for the front of sierras? Mine are ratshit and the cheapest i can find for both sides is $120, which is very steep imo.

The overhaul componentry:
-Swivel Seal @ $12.00e
-Swivel Seal Felt @ $8.00e
-Inner Axle Seal @ $7.00e
-King Pin Bearings @ $14.00e

In most cases these are the components needed to carry out a front overhaul on a Sierra
