can it be passed in Qld?
strong motor too.
do it!
you wanna come back to beautiful queensland and help me build it
i'm back from the start of March to start a business, maybe this might be one of the first jobs?
dude... that would be perfect!! that is pretty much when i want to start this (or similar) type project. an old 4runner / lux etc with some sort of powerful (prefer turbo) motor.
Im not sure it would be a great conversion but its a fairly easy one.
Dont use a hilux transfer.
Go from the SR20 into the Nissan 5spd with the rear half of an RB20 Patrol 5spd and the Patrol transfer. You should only need to make mounts and tailshafts then No nead for custom addapters at all.

hey tony, what patrol's came with a RB20? an older MQ / MK or something?
why do you say not sure if its a great one?? (aside from mixing tojo and nissan )
GQs had the RB30 fitted early on. It was just an optional model.
Only reason i see it not being the best conversion is it will prob lack the ability to crawl. I think you will find you will need to keep the revs up to drive it all the time. But i have been wrong in the past. I expected Chris was going to have similare issues with his Rotor but it seams to work ok. Its not like you wont be able to sell the conversion if it doesnt work.

what about a 3S-GTE from a GT4 celica? think they make the same power figures and you would be keeping it in the family
Not short on power up options either AFAIK.
there are all sorts of things you can do to get more tourque out of a motor once it has left the factory.
The FJ20's are an old motor now, they are expensive and hard to get parts for.
The SR20's are, not only relativly cheap, they are everywhere, get the motor out of the GTIR Pulsars and they come with quad throttle bodies and slightly different / better spec than the Aussie delivered 200SX motors.
There are a few forums that you could get on to find out more on how to tweak them for more power / tourque and maybe even get some cheap parts.

a mate has a 2wd hilux with one in it. I know there is a big difference between 2wd and 4wd. but it ran 14 passes on something like 9 psi.
he had troubles with the hilux diff holding up to the power.
he now has a black top, sr20det vvt, and a bigger turbo.
he used silvia box, but obviously didn't have to go into an xfer.
and 18 psi. has trouble with traction.
I'll find out some more specs.
even with the extra losses of xfer, front diff and possibly a bigger Gbox. it would be a killer conversion, and it would sneeze!!
I had one that I was going to put into my suzuki. but it was going to take too long to do the conversion. so I sold it. it was a non turbo.
enjoy ashley

IMHO = who cares if your Opinion is Humble! its your opinion isn't it?
so IMO it a waste of a H
dont worry bout down low, they will crawl fine, pulls a silvia up a steep loose dirt track at under 500 rpm fine.... from a stock engine. they also do custom grind cams just about anywhere because of there popularity. you can keep the power near stock and nearly double torque using some cam and cam gear setups.
revvy motors can crawl as well if not better with deep gearing though. Aftermarket crawlers or duals etc mean that you are naturally revving high when crawling which puts revvy motors in their peak range
Seen a couple of sierras with 4ages in them that were a handful with standard gearing but they became monsters with rockhoppers thrown in
SR20DET would be a killer conversion with the gearing to back it up

These motors are transverse tho.... might make it harder to engineer come RWC time with engine mounts etc..
All said and done, my mate has a 91 import GTiR with 350hp at all 4 wheels...

I dont know how cheap they are up there, but they are $3000incl computer and wiring down here.
you can get a full front cut (everything infront of middle (- panels, somtimes includes seats and stuff) from around 2500 up here in brissie...shop around, and even talk to private/smaller vehicle importers they often run into wrecks in their travels often for less than the larger companies.

i've spoken to a few wreckers and a few people in the know and i can get the motor (no box, non- froont cut, i don't need all that other shit) for around $1200.
i wouldn't bother with those other motors, mainly becuase i know several people with sr20det's and they are awesome. nice quick motor and they are relitively cheap.
I wouldn't get anything except a turbo motor (most likely) becuase this will still be my daily driver once it's complete, and i want to be able to get around with some speed.
