Outer Limits 4x4 Board

after sitting my car on its side this weekend im contemplating which diffs to put under my n/t swb sierra. reasons for change mainly for extra width
main choices are wt swb sierra or hilux/bundera diffs (which also will give me extra strength).
i know hilux pumkins are bigger therefore less clearance but i'll be able to go big rubber without worring about breaking stuff and heaps of gearsets to choose from.
i know it sounds like my mind is made up but am after genuine thoughts
like i dont care about keeping it one brand im a Scanas and am loyal to no brand except Honda but were not discussing bikes.

if u plan to go bigger then 33's id say go the toys

if you don't want to have it engineered, go wide track and call it good. hilux diffs are a fair bit wider and will make you cop magnet.

perhaps get offset rims and spacers and only use them off road if width is your main concern.

suzuki diffs on 33" will give you heaps of clearance already. hilux with >35" tyres will require a host of other mods as well.

Hilux all the way.

33's on zook gear and you will break cv's and rear axles.

35's on hilux diffs and it will be reliable as you can get and they will fit with minimal mods.

Worried about clearance, run bigger tyres (which you can and still be reliable) or shave the housing. I did my front diff and gained an extra 30mm of clearance.

tyre size's im thinking of running will be 33-35
im just a bit concerned about running anything bigger than 31's on zook axles and cv's , i like the rocks and don't do much in the mud .
but i spose i could try the wt with heavily offset rims and keep the 31's and see how that all fairs , i just want reliability as well as extra width .

anyone know how much grimbo's wt diffs have improved his rig?

if all you are after is extra width dont waste your time changing the diffs. Slap on a set of wheel spacers or offset the rims as wide as you can get them.

yeah thats what i was thinking (minuss the shaving hadn;t thought of that )

I have 37 boggers on my zook with no body lift and a spring over.

If you have a body lift in yours, and also depending on wheel travel, 35's will fit quite easily. The area you will have to cut, if you have to, will be in the firewall/footwell area.

I have only had the car out once with the wid tracks but the stability is noticable and wheel travel has improved. i have been running 34s on Sierra stuff for about 3 years now and haven't broken anything yet. But as you said you want to do mainly rocks so it may be different. in Vic conditions there is a lot more give in the terrain so things aren't as bound up. We do have a guy in the club running 36" swampers on locked diffs with a dual transfer case setup and he has only broken 2 cvs

i'd be interested but theres someone else selling front and rear w/t's with brakes and everything for $500. only done about 90,000km's to with 4.11 ratio's can you improve on that !

make sure that the brakes are complete if you buy them....complete doesnt mean no brake shoes, one wheel cylinder and no brake line..

so yeh just check that first coz its a major PITA if that isnt the case

Use your centres to give you the ratio you want. and these diffs are complete. Brakes, pads, hubs, steering arms, etc etc. Still $600

i think ill go the wt for a while and when they start to break i'll have no choice but to go toy axles. its all about $ at the moment .

cheapest optiion in the long run will be hilux axles.

you will save money on breakages and you will eventually go hilux diffs so money spent on a wisetrack conversion will be wasted.

The cheapest way to build a car is to build right the first time!

i can sell you narrow hilux rear - full brakes, axles no centre for $75

i can piece a front together for $100 - no centre or cvs axles

can arrange the other bits if needed

also have 1 4.5 ratio diff $200 and know a bloke on here with another 4.5

My diffs are still for sale $500 and they are COMPLETE!! They are currently on my zook which is a daily driver, so it definately has brake cylinders, and pads

go the hilux diffs!!! they are much stronger, and you can get em really cheap. I picked up a whole hilux for $400.and I just did the conversion on my zook and it works briliantlly.also i found out that the hilux diff housing (without axles) are the same width as the zook w/t housings. the only differance is in the brake drum. and its only a little wider anyway.

Every expresion of interest I've had in my diffs has been from some tool who wants to give me $50 for the lot, or someone who knows what a bargain they are, and would buy them if they were local

i'd snap them up if i was able to put the $500 aside for parts. however i can't sit down from my current spending spree.

skip where are you getting your yj springs from? or have you found a suitable equivalent?

I know of a setm of hilux diffs for $850 complete.
