Who did u get your quote from? I just had mine rebuilt by Rankin Diesel in Bayswater Vic, and the pump rebuild was $650+labour.
Unless you know what your doing, id suggest you dont tackle a pump, you have to get all the timing marks aligned spot on when u remove the pump.
There is atleast 4 hours labour in remove/refit the pump.
Do yourself a favour and get the pump rebuilt, as the seals in the pump are only going to leak on you unless they have been replaced with Viton seals.

ok, well i can get a rebuilt pump from a mate for the 300 mark. still really keen to fit it myself, is it in the workshop manual at all, how to get everything aligned? dont really have the cash to spend on getting a shop to do it for 400bucks....
any help would be much appreciated. cheers.

The removal is on pg 73 of my gregories manual...
While your there, probably should replace your timing belt aswell depending on how long since it has been done too... Normally about $100 from repco/toyota..
Can scan the page for you if your interested.
