I Have a 1984 sierra with a 3 inch body lift and i also have a 6000lb winch which is yet to be mounted.
I am wondering if there are people out there who have mounted a winch on the front of there zooks without having a winch bar.
Has anyone out there done this?
Can you do it with some form of a winch receiver?

I am willing to mount it the same height as the chassis rails.

Any ideas and Pictures of what people have done would be much appreciated.

Or is there someone out there who could knock me up a tube bar for a good price ;)

Cheers
Simon..

Got a local jap import dealer?

they commonly have patrols with just a winch cradle set up but no real barwork.

I believe the ARB etc bars need a cradle insert to hold the winch to the chassis rails anyhow.

I am after a bar but at the moment funds are rather low so i was just trying to get the winch on the vehicle.

If there is anyone in melbourne who makes bars at a fair price let me know, or if anyone wants to make a few bucks.
i have spoken to mobs like cheezy racing and they are asking $1000 for a tube winch bar that suits my car with the 3 inch lift.

Cheers

I have also lately been wondering how I am going to mount a winch on the front of my 40. I came across this: http://www.warn.com/truck/mounting-syst ... tbed.shtml the other day and thought that would make life alot easier. I enquired at ARB about some sort of mounting bracket along these lines prior to finding this link and was told there was no such thing. I think I might show him this link and see if he can get them after all and how much. I'll let you know how I go. Failing that I'll just have to make my own.

Go to a steel merchant and buy some 100 x 75 x 8 or 10mm angle iron, cut to length. Drill it to mount via the recovery hook bolts under the chassis rails, and drill holes to mount the winch, and cut a hole for the wire to poke through. would cost less than $100.

Or, using the above material as a base, measure up all the holes, diameters where to cut slots, holes etc, and head to a steel merchant that does fabrication work.

Go to Melsteel, Abbott Rd, Hallam. See Louie, show him your drawing and your rig, and they should be able to make one cheaply enough......
