Outer Limits 4x4 Board

what do you guys think? I had to snatch a mate out today off Andersons as he nearly slid off the track just after the first steep bit (bloody ATs!).

My centrally mounted tow point on the front is standard and even though I wasn't using the snatch to its full potential as i didn't need to, there was a lot of creaking going on down there!

Has anyone had issues with their tow points being used for snatching?

(Yes i read the thread below but want other opinions!)

Keep in mind the previous owner didn't even know what the second gearstick was for! I'm guessing the tow points have never been used before.

always use a rated recovery point which means go to supercheap/autobarn and get one cheap and much better then having it rip off and hurt someone make sure it has a rating stamp on it

I use both as dont have any others mounted. Seem ok. Rear one seems a lot stronger than the front. I try not use the front if i have to.

If you're refering to the TIE-DOWN points, the simple answer is DON'T use 'em for snatching!!!! They are only there for tying the vehicle down during transport.

They make a fantastic missile when used as a recovery point. Go and get yourself a proper rated recovery hook which should bolt to the chassis rails.

I've picked up rated recovery hooks for as little as $10 during sales, but they're not that expensive even at full price. Very cheap insurance IMHO.

the rear 1 is strong as, in my shorty ive snatched zooks to yotas never had an issue with it.

on zooks , they are actually recovery points !!!!
as others have stated , front one is,nt the strongest (would only pull other zooks !!)
(do know of ppl pulling the round x-member out !! )
rear one is ok !!!
(same , heve pulled yota,s , patrools & heeps !!!)

I broke my front one off Hit a stump and bent it (the stump was only three foot round and I couldnt see it) I then used it to tie the car down on the trailer and it broke

original sierra points are welded in 2 places, when they break, they stay on the car, and if a weld goes, theres still the other.

but they are not super strong, and when they break, the strap, shackle and whatever can become a missile.

I've never broken the rear one, but my front one broke at zooks 20th year. thanks to pete

Ive been snatched many times from the standard points, especially the front, and have snatched other heavier vehicles from both, havent had a problem yet.

Front hook is probably a BAD idea...

I know on the 1.0L the front point doesnt have the steering stabilser attatched to it, but on the 1.3 it does so if u managed to break it off a bit higher u coudl rip a few other things out to.

I have put 2 hooks on the front and rear of mine, they look kool too.
