I am looking to get an engineers certificate for a ute conversion on my Sierra, the only problem is no one has done it (the legal way) in Queensland so they dont have a code for it. It has been done in NSW apparently & i am looking to find out as much as i can about what is needed to apply. I am also wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to get a leaf over approved along with other suspension work.

If anyone has done it or knows what is needed to do it i would really appreciate any imput.

Thanks

In QLD SPOA Are illegal so that will never happen it seems as to the ute conversion it would have been a better option to find out the legalities before actually doing. Not many engineers are happy to retro supply a report. Always a better option to find out what and how things should be done before doing.

There have been heaps of threads on legalities in QLD and it seems that you can't do much, don't base what can be done in NSW as they have one of the best set of laws for modifying whilst QLD the worst

A suggestion would be 2 inch body and 2 inch suspension lift with the removable fibre-glass top, if your car is a soft top, and run some 31's.my 2 cents ;)

It looks to me that the ute conversion has been done already.

just go tell em its a ute, my soft top has been registered as a ute since new (95) even though its a normal 4 seat swb

have seen the 88.5 bitsa widetrack softops with utility on the compliance plate aswell so they probably dont bother now cause they cant keep up with all the variations

There should be no problems getting a Sierra ute conversion blue-plated. This is mainly due to the fact that the Sierra has a seperate chassis. Call Queensland Transport and have them give you the name of an Authorised Officer that can approve that particular modification. I'm not sure what the code is off the top of my head, i'll post it up tomorrow.

just get a mod plate for 2 seats if it doesn't already have one. Aslong as yu don't remove any of the occupant safety devices like the B pillar, or seat belt stays, then its completely legal.

I'm pretty sure LH7 is the code you want. QDOT should be able to verify that when you call them.

just getting a 2 seater blue plateisnt all you need to have it legal. it will help but its still not legal.

Yes it would have been better to find it all out before the chop but i didnt have much choice. it was all smashed up in the rear. Chainsaw i would be very interested to see the pics of your car & find out exactly what you did

cheers

I have talked to an engineer and he wouldn't use that code he said you can do amything if you have the money and he can apply for it and find out what to do and get a specific brand new code just for your car. but it can't be used on another car you have to apply for it again on a different one. if you want to make a code that can be used on any zuk you can buy three and do the exact same mod to each and put the inot the transport authority and they will do crash testing on them and then you will get the code. The otherway is to apply yourself and save money but you are more likely to get knocked back. apparentally there is some egineers around who can mod it but can't find one. the two seat mod will only fooll most cops but if in an accident or pulled over by qld transport, your insurance will be voided and even your ctp insurance that comes with your rego which protects you from getting sued from killing someone else.

What he saud sounds very strange to me. I would call Queensland Transport and ask them.
