hey just tossing up weather to perchase thease from what i have read they seem too good to be true any one running them and got any feed back ?

They are unreal tyre can hardley notice them on the road and great for mud slinging as well plus they look awsome.

Running them on the old mans Patrol. Getting a great run out of them. He's done 15-18,000kms so far and they have worn about 25%. Guesstimation is that they'll do 60-70,000, however these have done a lot of continual touring in their life. Plenty of gravel with moderate loads. He's pretty good with his maintainance and tyre pressures when travelling.
Performance wise on the bitumen.... I am really impressed with their noise levels. Very quiet for the aggressive nature of the tyre. They handle very nicely in wet and dry.
Feedback from customers who are running these is very positive. Voicing opinions similar to mine.
You won't be disappointed with the purchase.

Are the new STT's silica compound?

I've now had mine for about 8 months, and have taken them to Fraser and Cape York (plus a few weekends/day trips.) On road noise is not a problem - certainly no noisier than the MT/Rs they replaced.

Off-road at 20 front/25 rear they've been fantastic. The only time I've been stopped was on the hill in my avatar, when both front and rear wheels needed to climb out of holes at the same time. Other than that, traction has never been an issue, although I've not had to push them through sloppy mud.

As with the S/Ts I had, and the MT/Rs, I've never had the slightest hint of a leak.

Using a steel ruler, measuring in the middle of the tread, the spare is 14.5mm and all the tyres on the road are at 11mm. This is after 12 000 km, about 7 or 8 000 km on bitumen - and they've yet to be rotated. At this rate, I should get another 30 to 40 000 km per tyre, but I do hope the wear rate slows a little.

is this true?

i got a set of these from Ryano and they are on my patrol...they perform very good on road and arent too noisy either... they work really well offroad and go just as well as the JT2s i used to use offroad..

as for wear they seem to wear fairly well but obviously arent going to last as long as at tyres would... but i will never go back to ats from these as the benefits offroad far outweigh the slightly quicker wear rate...

i cant comment on the treadwear guarantee but 80 000 is a crap load of kms.....i would be expecting to get 50 000 out of my tyres as i do use them offroad a fair bit which really wears them out

if its like any of the other cooper tyres the warranty is only good
if you get it serviced by there special places every so often (specified when you purchase them)

basically so they have proof that they havnt been abused past the limits of the warranty
and so they can rotate them and do what they do to make sure the tyres last the bit longer

How are these tyres for Sydney style trails with rocks etc?

Tossing up between these, MTR's, Xterrains and Radial Claws.

I know these are good for touring style things but just wondering about more 'hardcore' terrain.

I'm likin my stt's so far
same comments as people before me, quite well-behaved and not too noisy on bitumen, working very well off road

They might have confused them with the ST.. they carry a warranty.

and also sum people have been led to beleive that the warrantie cover your for a free set of new tyres which is totally untrue

Yeah they give you whatever amount of kilometers you didnt travel as a discount on a new set.. so you need to buy more even if they were crappy Good ploy anyways

Not true.... if you find that you aren't entirely happy, the warranty is actually a credit to the Dealer and can be used to offset the price in a different brand if you would prefer. From my experience, most people who haven't achieved the desired mileage are still really happy with the overall performance of the Cooper tyre and still choose to stick with the Cooper product. Quite often the reason for short mileage is application based. They are using the wrong pattern for what they do. This can be as a result of changing the intended use from the time of original purchase. For instance.... initial purchase time it was to be mostly bitumen with a bit of beach and ended up being a lot of bush and off road. With the pro-rata adjustment we put a pattern on that suits what they are doing and then get the expected mileage.

My only issue with my ST's is when I sliced a side wall in a NP on rocky terrain. I consider it my fault as I had not yet let the pressures down changed the tyre but it still did not blow until I was home 2 days later washing the crud off, scared the hell out of me

Guy in our club has ripped sidewalls of 2 35" ST (all terrain version) coopers and popped bead off once in last 3 trips. all at full road pressure on a 100 series. quite good for on road, crap offroad

i am realy unshore on what to buy,
the car only dose about 200ks a week on road give or take gets taken off road every second weekend there abouts to places like appin and meni

would thease tyres be sutiable ?
i have shitty kumo venture M/T's at the moment and they go good off road but wear shit on road and i chip the shit out of them i`v riped a few lugs of rubber off too

been told the cooper stt are the go for best off road /on road wearing tyres out.

i've done close to 40,000k's on the old st's and to the eye they look spot on, they've still got a nice square edges on the tread.

a mate has recently purchased the new stt's and on road noise and general handling is almost identical, off road however he motor's through slushy holes a lil easier than me. rocks and gravel they seem similar but come to tacky clay type stuff and they both suck.

Mtrs are a pretty safe choice and they should be good for the terrain that you are running.

the armor-tek (new ones) STT's have a 3 ply sidewall, which only really means something whenl you realise the 3rd ply is offset to the rest so the stakes tend to push into the V and the whole tyre rolls over them rather then get punctured. not stake proof of course but better than most

apparently there self cleaning is this true?
so you can run them in mud and slush

I had a look at them today, and the claw is definately more agressive for mud etc, though the STT has a really soft compound which would be good for rock.

i bought the STT over mickey claws, becuase i was warned that the claws were lethal on a wet bitumen road.

However, the STT has proven itself great on and off the road ... self cleaning ... all Mudterrain tires are suposed to be self cleaning . i think that means that when you get out of the bog, as you drie along, the mud will break loose and fall off, not that they do it while still in the mud.

It is the self cleaning whilst driving in the mud which makes a mud tyre a mud tyre.

As the tyre revolves, the design of the tread pattern and the flex it undergoes releases the mud that is situated in between the lugs, which makes it self cleaning.

If the mud was released after the fact, they would be no more useful than a Highway Terrain tyre in the mud.

Umm ... guys, if there is mud getting thrown on your car then they are cleaning themselves. While you are in the mud, it will look like they are not cleaning as they are still picking up the mud in the tread every rotation. If they weren't cleaning, you would stay in the mud and nothing would be flicked up on your car. Also, wheel speed is required to flick the mud out, not just simple rotation.

The Baja Claws have come out on top of many "mud" type tyre comparisons over the last 2 or so years. For general use (for that particular style of tyre..), compared to boggers, BF muddies, extreme trekkers and the likes, they have the best overall results for all situations (I've had 33's, 35's and 37's, and as far as i'm concerned are the best tyre i've driven on). However, i think that they could possibly be a step too far into the aggresive department, for what you want.

The other problem is that claws are directional, which means carrying both a drivers AND passenger side spare if you decide to go touring or whatever. Not sure if the new Cooper STT's are directional or not, but i'll be getting STT's for my next set, ready to attack the cape.
