What fuel economy should I get?
91 80 series manual front hubs

economy
Since I had the injectors done it got better and less smoke.
I get 12.5 on the highway and up to 14 in the city.
285/75/16's and its a full time 4wd gxl model.
oh and its manual... but the full time 4wd should use a bit more, so you should be getting better economy than I am.

Shut Up, Get Out, & Start Digging...
I have a 94 base model with DTS turbo intercooler. I also run a roof rack with steel rear bar and get around 14l per hundred thats a mix of about 50/50 town highway use. Fully loaded for a trip with C/T and a full load of fuel and water. (265 lt fuel and 120 lts water) It goes up to just over 16lt per hundred.
I am going to get my injectors done soon, wind the boost back to 10 psi and reset the fuel pump, so hopefully will get better ecom.
Will let you know how it goes.

Hey chucky, have you got a boost compensator installed? If so what difference has it made? However I have a mate with a DTS intercooled setup on his 80 and mine does seem to run better. Not as much smoke down low in the revs and mine pulls away from his when already moving on the road, such as over taking etc. My fuel economy is better as well, on a recent trip up to inskip we used the same amount of fuel, all he had on board was a bag of clothes and small esky where I had the C/T, the 110lt waeco all the food and all the crap needed for 4 adults and a 8 month old.
The difference is noticable enough that he is getting a compensator fitted in the near future.

You guys should all be getting better than that. I think it may depend on your driving style.
I had a 93 RV 80 series with manual petrol 1fz-fe 4500cc in it and I would routinely get 13-14L per 100 km the best I got ever managed to get was 1050km off 135L (140litre capacity main+sub tanks). My driving style typically meant an average of 95km/hr on the open road.
Around town I would manage to get 750-850 per tank/s which is around about 16-17L per 100km.
If you are in a diesel and getting worse figures than these then I would suggest servicing your injectors and maybe look at tuning your pumps a little. There is a really good diesel mechanic in Goulburn works for the Kubota dealership and is very good with pumps, he sorted out My in laws 3b and it is a completely different motor now as a result both with economy and power

My current average is 13.5L/100km. Its a 1995 DX, with DTS kit and boost compensater, no intercooler yet. Have 315/75/16 tyres, and weighs ~2.8t as i drive it everyday. And i give it a regular flogging

ahahha - and the funniest thing is when people like you quote figures like that and say that 80 series cruisers are fuel pigs. If you want to drive fast get an XR8 if you want good economy in a heavy cruiser then, drive with a little patience and a lighter foot. I may drive a little slower and take a little longer to get there but I am also less fatigued when I arrive.Slayer wrote:

I discovered that if i drive for any length of time at 115+ I would fatigue twice as quick or more than when I drove at 10-20km/h less.
I drive with plenty of patience and get diesel like economy knowing that at anytime I need to put the foot down I have plenty of power available.
Practive this in a diesel and you should be able to record phenomenal figures. I would love to see someone do this.
Take care on the roads this holiday season, slow down it doesn't cost much and in the end may save you more than dollars and sense

my 1HZ 80 DX, at standard height on standard 7.50/16 tyres would deliver 11l/100km or better, with the turbo, 35" tyres and 5" lift, around 13, and I used the power when I needed to. my current '96 multivalve factory turbo delivers phenomenal economy, regularly under 12 litres/100km with 35's and 5" lift, and rear tyre carrier, winch, bars etc. it goes bad when you exceed 100km/h or try and drive it like a race car around town.

lol people like me??? i dont own an 80 series, nor have i ever put petrol in one, and im certainly not complaining about how much fuel they use.. simply stating a facotry rating for referance that u must drive like a granny... dont take it wrong, but also everyones curcumstances are differnt remember some people dont have the time to drive 15 kms under the limit (95 in a 110 as u stated above).. work, appiontments, 2 jobs, whatever the reason may be, and such they live with the fuel economy, but complain...
