Hello,

Since I've lost my licence for 6 months and knowing that if I don't move away from cars to 4wds I'll end up losing my licence(I'm a heavy leadfoot) and I wanted to use up the 6 months to build myself a nice hilux in time to drive when I get my licence back.

I just wanted some information about hiluxs. How hard is it to find rolling shells of 92 - 96 model spacecab/single cab hilux(eg: wrecking) and how much they go for.

Where is the best place in Brisbane to look for wrecking hiluxs that can be done up(can't have alot of damage: Panels are fine, but pillars, frontend, cab damage is not) without costing me an arm and leg.

What I want to do is spend the 6 months working on the hilux, build it up to a nice running 4wd without costing me too much. I don't want to get older model hilux. I prefer to get spacecab/extra cab but if I have to, I'll be happy to get a single cab.

Thanks guys!

Great. All we need is a heavy leadfoot behind something thats harder to control and stop.

I don't see how changing from a performance car to a 4x4 is going to make me feel safer on the roads when its apparent you have no respect to others or the law.

As for your questions. Grab a phone book and start calling 4x4 wreckers and get a feel for the market. Quickest and Simplest way....

Try the Fowles damaged auctions near the airport. Don't buy anything that is stat write off unless just for parts. Lots of good trucks go thru with not much damage.

I did the same thing after loosing my license for the second time.

I got a 4runner with a pissy 2ltr 3Y. Alot harder to speed in that than my two previous commodores. The only ticket I have had in the past 4 years is for crossing a double white line a few weeks ago.

I am glad I made the switch to 4wds. Although am looking at getting another commo as a DD next year :D

I don't want to hear any whinging about leadfoot, that's the reason why I want to move from cars to 4wd(I do have experience with 4wding) and I know a 4wd will keep me happy right on the speed limit :)

I would call, but I'm hearing impaired! I just wanted to know what the price ranges were.

Thank you

What you want is a 60 series LandCruier with the naturally aspirated 2H diesel engine! That will cure your lead footitis!

I wouldn't mind, however I don't want to spend alot time working on a truck. I want something that is pretty much half done and easy to work on.
