Is taking the sway bar off a stock 87 sierra a stupid idea? Is it dangerous in anyway?
Has anyone ever installed a pod filter onto a sierra? or dumb idea if yo ur going to go through any water? do they actually had performance?
Cheers
Ben

POD filters r bad mkay
Taking the Sway bar off will cause a bit more body roll and may be illegal, but is WAY better offroad for most situations, drive carefully until you get used to it.
Early Sierras had no sway bar Ive been told.

mine was on the rear, it fell off 10 years ago...speed sensing shocks stable up the ride a lot.....haven't noticed any tyre wearing......but yes be careful till your used to handling changes

Took the sway bar off ages ago, back when on stock wheels. I too was aprehensive about any adverse effects on the road. As stated above it does make a positive difference offroad. I have not noticed any ill effects on road and I have run different shocks and springs, stock wheels and 31"s. The only time I have ever had any adverse effect was mid-donut, slight wheel lifting, but then that kind of stupid stuff isn't why you take it off.
Forget the pod filter unless you are also going to get a lowering kit, low-profile rubber on 20" rims, a stereo worth more than the vehicle, lay the seats back and put a sticker on it that can only be read by someone who speaks Japanese.

I'm not trying to be a smart ****,
but if you're not sure what is what under the front, I'd leave it alone till you do.
if yours is stock, the 1 with the shocker is the drag link, it stops wheel wobble and bump steer, when hitting bumps etc. draglink goes from pitman arm on steer box down to the tie bar, which is the long straight 1 that joins the two sides/wheels together, so both turn.
sway bar is bent as you say, and will be rubber mounted, under tension, so be careful if removing.
mine never had a front one, so cant do a pic.
this pic shows the other stuff.

The sway bar bolts to the inside edges of the spring clamp plates (the shocks also mount to these but on the back) and has 2 U shaped brackets with 2 bolts per bracket onto the chasis. One U bracket per chasis rail.

I run a K&N Pod filter on my girlfriends zook. Has been on there now for a year (lifetime warranty too). All i do is use the cleaning kit every three months. Sounds nice too. And as for water, have driven the thing through deep water many times and no probs.
