Sierra Transfer case gear selector problems

Post by salli »

Ive got a sierra transfer case fitted with Rockhopper3gears ,ive done about 6000kms since the gears were fitted anyway today i was driving in 4H then i started to get bogged and found out the gearstick had gone to 2H and is stuck there and will not move into any other gear ...i can't move the gearstick to netural or lowrange or highrange. The weird thing is the position of the gearstick is stuck is where netural normally is cause its in the middle not top left where 2H normally is.The gearstick just will not budge ...anyone had this problem before ,does anyone know what it could be before i start to strip the transfer box? I think the transfer case is from a 1992 sierra wt and yes it did get new bearings when the box was built.

I had this happen to my zook all the time :x . The transfer lever would stick between high and low range, was a b!tch when it happened, driving home in low range with reduction gears is not fun.

Anyway, the selector rails for the gear shift would put themself out by about 2-3mm+ while wheelin.
Rod heated up the transfer lever and bent it into a more reasonable shape-away from firewall when in low range. :P
Problem was happening from the transfer lever pressing hard against the floor area (cutting out a small notch in floor where low range is didn't work for too long ;) ), after a couple of hard landings while 4wding it would move the rails around a bit.

Hope you get it sorted :P
