Had a vehicle examination yesterday and ive been given a work order to replace the swivel hub seals as there is grease everywhere on the outside (see attached pic). Just wanted to check that the inspector was correct that there shouldn't be any grease in that area and, if there is a worn seal whats involved in replacing it? I assume to begin with the 8 bolts and cover have to be removed?
Cheers

That looks like they are on the way out but not gone completely, skip when mine had to be done greese was leaking out onto the ground (is it leaking on the ground) just give it a clean and say that you replaced it
, its alot more work than 8 bolts believe me

I assume the seal is one piece so you have to remove the entire hub assembly?
If thats the case ill give it a degrease and loosen and tighten the bolts to make it look like ive replaced the seal

That is certainly far from needing replacing pump some fresh grease after degreasing it

Thats actually a very good idea. - Much better than the hub rebuild

Thanks for the advise.
Those split boots are a great idea. The one shown wouldnt fit my hubs but im sure someone else would make a suitable one.
The amusing thing about this is I had it inspected only about 2000 kms ago and that inspector didnt say anything, these inconsistancies give you the shits.
I was also told my exhaust was too close to my fuel tank and needed to maintain a 40mm clearance. After a bit of research i found in the VSR's metal fuel tank to metal exhaust clearance is 25mm, metal fuel
line to metal exhaust is 40mm
. Saved myself a few pennies there
