3.9 EFI Gas setups, what do you run?

I am wondering what gas systems everyone is having luck with.

I have a 3.9EFI engine in my 1986 RR classic and i want to run it on straight gas.

I am thinking of either ripping the EFI system off completely and using 3.5 carb manifold with gas research system

OR

Keep efi manifold and use impco setup, what do you think?

I am very interseted in hearing what size mixers and convertors are fitted to EFI systems and what complications air filtration has been ie where have you instaled the air filter, i am using a LRA snorkel so i was thinking the carb manifold and gas research system gives much more room to create good inlet tract with no sharp bends.

So hang on ... you have an 86 with a 3.9EFI and it runs which EFI system flapper or hotwire ?

I would stick with EFI and go with a IMPCO system there are guys that have good results from them here, gone with the 225 converter setup and have got 19L/100K out of discos.

I wouldn't change the manifold unless you had your heart set on doing that - I mean why stuff with it excessively

I'm with Tom, keep the efi manifold and fit a impco 200 / 225 mixer on it, simple easy to tune system. If you are putting a tank in the cargo area then its easier to keep it dual fuel.

If you intend to run straight gas, then you may as well rip out the EFI intake gear and ecu etc, and bolt the mixer straight on top of a carbie manifold - leaves you more room to bolt other things into the engine bay, and the setup can be a lot tidier - especially since you have a snorkel. Plus, you can sell the injection gear/fuel tank to cover some of the gas conversion cost. Is the Gas Research system the one that runs its own computer? Can't remember.... You could run the impco system as a straight gas setup as well without keeping manifolds, btw.

If you decide to keep all your manifolds etc, then IMHO there is no point not having dual fuel, since all the gear is retained. If you use straight gas like this, most of the electrical things to do with the fuel will crap themselves pretty soon anyway.

For my part, if I was doing a gas conversion to mine, it'd be dual fuel, just in case I ended up somewhere where there is no gas available.

If you do decide to remove all your injection gear, I'd be interested in buying the whole injection setup (manifolds/afm/loom/ecu) off you, and I have a spare carbie manifold if you needed it....

Thanks for the input guys, i don't know what the EFI system is!! The Vehicle is Ranuki's old truck, i believe the 3.9 is out of a disco.

The reason i want to remove the whole efi system is for reliability, ican remove all the electrics and computer, and with the gas research system have a very simple system, the rangie currently has 2 LPG tanks where the original fuel tanks were and i have a pair of aux petrol tanks for the sills, i would rather install another large LPG tank in the cargo area to provide me with long range capacity.

I am thinking along the same lines as RangingRover, the vehicle is going to be built only for extreme driving, it has 4:11 maxi's front and rear, laminated front housing with LRA modified swivels for correct castor, 2" body lift, 4" spring lift, maxi drive steering arms, Guards are cut for 36's etc...

I am trying to find someone to rewire the truck whilst it is stripped and remove all the uneccessary wiring as i know it is going to spend alot of time in deep bog holes.

If i do decide to go for Gas resarch i would be interested in selling the complete efi system as i would have no need for it.

Do you run a cage in your rangie RangingRover? i am new to rangies so any advice would be welcome
