i would say it is the uni's, mine was clunking when taking off at lights before i replaced unis.
i good way to tell is to grab the tailshaft and turn it by hand backwards and forwards and see if there is any movement in the unis.

Mine did this like 2 weeks ago.
One of the uni's has seized and inturn chewed up the centre bearing which was doing nothing at all (Good 3 inches of play in it). Changed the Uni and the centre bearing and hey presto the clunking etc has gone.
Grab the tail shaft near the Centre bearing and shake it. Is there a heap of play, if there is the bearing needs to be replaced. It comes as a whole unit and just bolts in.

I only just had my diffs rebuilt so I was pretty sure it wasn't them!
Still a worry though!

the only time i have had a clunky noise was when the pinon nut let loose and drove the pinon gear into the carrier of the diff
