winch fairleads - roller or plate which is best for plasma??

Hi all, just picked up a new jackaroo which has a warn xd9000 fitted, the drum is wound with the purple 'plasma' rope, but it has a standard 4 way roller fairlead fitted.
I was of the understanding that the alluminium flat plate with radiused edge hole was the go for plasma style winch rope.
So basically i dont know jack about plasma ropes and need to know, do i stick with the rollers (which rattle and shit me) or go with a plate style fairlead??
Also do you need a different cable block for plasma or is a standard wire rope unit sufficient ??
cheers all, Brad

This is my setup, however if the roller fairlead has never had wire rope on it you can use it. Any hook is fine.

For rope you really want a hawse style fairlead - the rollers can pinch & damage the rope.

Like BLKMAV - i have the hawse. Started with the rollers but on angle the rope seemed to go to close to the edge and run the risk of being pinched - my rollers didnt have the plastic spacers..
But if the rollers are new then rope should be fine over them - others would even say better - less strain by rolling and less heat...

try to get one that is rounded on the back as well. Some of them are square on the back edge and can fray the rope pretty quickly

Actually just one bit of qualification on hawse fairleads.
For rope ideally you want a hawse that disperses the heat like Alloy.
However cable will eat alloy real quick.

cool, thanks guys, we have a pretty good machine shop at work so i should be able to make one up, we have some 1/2 inch T3 ally plate , is that thick enough ?? i was thinking probably some 3/4 T6 with the dual radius would be the go, but i'd have to buy that ( :-(( )
Blkmav, yours looks grouse, mine only has a soft eye set up and no sleeving, i like the solid eye and sleeving yours has. i was thinking of putting a sleeve of rubberised layflat hose over mine to cover the whole top layer on the drum, to protect it from the uv breakdown.
whatta you reckon ??

I have always used the roller fairlead for my rope with out any dramas at all. I would recomend using a new one though from start. It just does not seem right dragging rope over a fairlead instead of rolling it over.

Does anyone know if the rollers on warn fairleads are solid (except for the bolt hole)?
I was thinking maybe you can chuck the rollers off an old fairlead into a decent lathe and clean them up, shiny new.
