Murray have you looked around for a Jap import engine?
James has found a Detomaso HD-E front cut for $1800 - that's the 92kW version..... Would need to change wiring looms and ECU to fit it though (Detomaso has ignition timing controlled by the ECU- hmmm no more detonation!
). An engine by itself should be a lot less.

I weighed up the cost of getting another engine and getting mine rebuilt...I'd rather not have to fuss around with new engine numbers etc...balls rolling so I'll go this way.

Good luck- hope it all goes well.
Do you know what the cause of the "no" compression is yet? Is it the head (eg valve problems) or the piston?

Piston farked up, rings went and that burnt the valve out
Spoke with the guys rebuilding it, they do a lot of Daihatsu work. Say that the see this alot with the HD-E engines that hit 170,000 k's...and mine just clocked 175,000 k's :(

Interesting- I've heard the opposite about the HD-E. Providing you keep the cooling system up to scratch I've heard they last for ages. I know of one that's done over 400000km in a Feroza. Timing belts are about the only thing I've heard of that can cause problems.
What sort of air filter are you running?
PS: I've only just turned up 170000km- let you know how I go

Roza just turned 255000 k's and still running ( read purring ) like a clock.
Think you have to use good engine oil and I change mine every 5000 k's.
Won't use anything lower than Shell Helex Plus or Helex Sports 50 in the summer. Tried Helex Ultra but used an extra 1 litre over the 5000 k's.
Think the condition and life of our little trucks has a lot to do with who owned then before and how they looked after them.

.
Hmmmm... Maybe that's why mine uses oil, I use Mobil 1 5W50 synthetic. It's like water when it's cold and mine uses about 100ml/ 1000km- not much but I was wondering if it was because the oil is so thin.
Was it the Helix Ultra 5W40 you were using Leon? I think it's also available in 15W50 or something like that?

David, It was the top of the range Shell Helix Ultra. 5W40. I,m back to useing the semi synthetic Shell Helix Plus in Winter and Shell Helix Sports 50 in Summer.
All top oils and can't pick any difference in performance while driving except they all seem to make Roza run much smoother all the time.
Ive tried mixing some Penrite HPR15 with the Helix Ultra however while the result was I think ok the cost and farking around factor didn't seem to make the effort worthwhile.
Shell make good oil and I'm happy to run Roza on them as well as their Optima fuel.

I'm just sticking with the Mobil 1, even if the engine uses a bit of it. At least I know it's flowing to the top of the engine faster when it's first started (being thinner.)
I find my Feroza likes the lower revs, I often go through small roundabouts in third gear. It pulls well from just over 1000rpm in third. I very rarely go over 5000RPM and hardly ever use full throttle- found it doesn't make much difference between half and full!
