Hi all,

A mate and I want to test a winch which was brought very cheap, so expect that it won't work. Just want to see if motor works at all for a start, because I think solenoids are knackered for a start, they look screwed! So there are three posts on the motor, one red and two black, can I just give it a quick zap with a battery direct to the motor to see if it works, if so what posts need ot have power to them? It is a XD9000 warn.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,

Beretts.

Earth to the lone plug on the back of the motor.

In the triangle on posts, the two near each other are the field windings. The one by itself is the armeture.

You nead to provide +ve to one of the field windings while connecting the other field winding to the armature. By swapping the +ve and the connection link from one field winding to the other, the motor will turn in the other direction.
