Trying to diagnose a problem with my new engine.
1g-gte engine in hilux.
Engine idles smooth, runs smooth and revs real nice.
When I drive it, there is no power/pull.
You can hear the turbos wind up but the engine starts peaking at about 4,500rpm where it should be 8,500rpm. SO basically it just makes noise and doesn't go anywhere.
Wont rev above 5,000 when driving...
Any ideas?

Is it EFI ?
Could be a problem with the blackbox.
A mate had a similar problem with his datsun 1600 with a Nissan Donk (cant remember the engine) doesnt matter anyway, since he's an auto electrican he figured out there was a problem with the EFI side of things.
doesnt move sounds very weird?????
I'll talk to him 2morrow and sees what he says.

Lack of fuel?, fit inline fuel pressure gauge and road test.
Too much backpressure?, I have read on here about fitting a pressure/vacuum gauge to the exh to measure this, or drop the exh off at the flange.

No experience with that motor, but some problems with fitting a newer motor into an old chassis is often too-small a fuel line. If the fuel supply is restricted, the motor may starved at higher rpms.

Is it firing on all cylinders? Could be spark plugs or leads, but normaly it will run crap.
Could be an air flow meter problem, but would normaly run crap at anything but (and sometimes including) idol.
Could be a fuel starvation problem like others have said.
I know with mine (1UZ) if it gets water in the air flow meter it runs basicly like you have discribed.

Has it got an error code in the ECU?

Had a simular problem in an RX-7 race car once. Proved to be a bent waste-gate valve that wasnt able to close.
Don't know if this could be applicable to your setup.

I have had the same problem with that engine in an old supra celica and it was the because the computer went into limp mode. Limp mode retards the timing and causes no power. It probably just a sensor not pluged in right. just check all plugs are connected right then disconect the battery for 10mins and if still happens check engine codes

Thanks for the ideas fellas.
Its firing on all cylinders and sounds great. Starts and idles easily and smoothly. It has new fuel lines (larger) surge tank and new lift and high pressure fuel pumps. It all sounds like it should just work, but as I say it just doesn't.
Its running the factory computer etc.
Will keep checking all suggested ideas..

I recon its a timing issue, have had similar problems in the past, if it is computer controlled dissy check initial settings, timing could be way out and computer compensates at idle but has no room to adjust under load.
definitely electrical, if fuel it would cough or run rough or something. I recon check out the electrics

So you have had it going and it was driving Fine? Its just now started playing up? Sounds like it could also have blown an intercooler hose off Or intake hose if your not running an intercooler.
