LJ 80 Purchase

Hi all,
I am looking at buying a 1976 LJ80 4 stroke in stock condition with a second (excluding body) as spare for a very good price. Is this good base to work off for mods or should I look at something slightly more modern. Most playing here is sand or mud and deep water and I require a vehicle capable in these conditions, is the LJ 80 good enough for this?

yeah i reckon it would handle all that, and if its at the right price then the possibilties are endless..lol. mayb snorkel would good aswell

If you want to do bolt on bought from the store kinda mods you might find your choice a little limited. A sierra would be your best bet in that situation. If you are fabbing stuff yourself the sky is pretty much the limit.

If you are buying this as a plaything and getting it cheap it sounds good to me. I like the LJs because they are small and light, even more so than the Sierras. An LJ should shine in the sand because of the light weight. It should do OK in mud becase of the same reason, but deep water might be a problem unless it's very slow moving. Something that light will quite easily get washed away in deep, flowing water.

Cheers - a snorkel would be essential I know, nothing wrong with some fabbing. Deeper water here is often slow moving if moving at all. Will keep you posted if I get it.

Yeah I like thge look of the LJ's (all Jeeplike) and they have heaps that you can do with them (Sierra & Vitara bits) but they not so easy as sierras to get stuff for - rockhoppers, panels etc.

Have owned hard to get older models before and luckily you can usually fins something that fits or improves it EXCEPT FOR PANELS.

That's always the problem......

all you got to do is look at KERMIT and how far that has gone.they are a good little car,parts arnt that hard to get if you know where to look.i say if its cheap go for it.
