snorkel fittment

getting a safari snorkel fitted to my gq (td42) . My question is do they normaly remove the pre cleaner and run apipe to the air cleaner or do they just leave it on.What would be better.

i would think it be better to keep the pre cleaner?
isnt the aim to clean as much air as posible before it gets to the intakes?

They leave the pre-cleaner there!

They will leave it. IMHO, removing it is not a bad idea, but depends on where you wheel. If you go outback, and very dusty areas, leave it in. IF its only for road work, and the odd weekend, then piss it orf :D

The pipe out of the bottom of the precleaner is 1/4 the size of the intake, so is VERY restrictive.


In this photo the inlet is the 3inch pipe on left, the outlet is that flat piece of shit at the bottom right. about 1/2 inch!

Blocking the outlet, and making a better outlet would be a great option IMHO specially if you plan on keeping the precleaner.


They also very common to have it crack around the outlet underneath the precleaner box, and you cant see it unless you remove the precleaner.

When you go thru a river, you find out the hard way, which aint good in a diesel.
