auto question

Post by lexi »

When going up a long but gradual climb for a few miles with td42 auto as I see it you have two choices.....Sit comfotable in normal drive let the box be in 3rd ? at an easy but rather noisy 2600 revs. or switch in the o/d and watch the needle come down to a nice 2100 revs which is just nice until 2 seconds later the convertor locks up and you drop down to about 1800rev. I don`t like forcing the truck up a long gradient like this as it don`t do engine or tranny any good. It`s as if you need a gear in between. There is a switch to keep tranny in the gear you are sitting in but when you flick o/d switch and your tacho comes down then operate hold switch it doesn`t stop the revs coming down a second time when the convertor lock up. Am I missing something or is this the go.

dude i drive mine the opposite.. ill be cruising highway etc with o/d button on. when the engine starts to labour or like u say up steep hills needs a bit of oomph i just switch outta o/d. if u wait for it kick down on its own u will lose to much revs and road speed.

mine does the same thing though...takes about 3 seconds to lock up when u put in o/d, and revs drop in like 2 stages. i thought i had a convertor problem but my auto guy reckons all ok...

on a nother note.. i keep outta o/d drive until im on highway freeway conditions. dunno why.. i guess i just like to hear my motor rev? oh and my power light is out on my dash.. would it be a globe thing? everything else is working fine...

Yeah could be a bulb mate. Anyone got a manual gearbox figure of revs = road speed in 4th and 5th. I get the feeling 4th gear on a manual would be better for the situation I described. It`s the only thing I don`t like about the auto.
