G'DAY GUYS, I NEED A LITTLE INFO. IM CHANGING MY TRANSMISSION FROM AUTO TO MANUAL, BUT I NEED A FLYWHEEL, PROBLEM IS I CAN GET MY HANDS ON PLENTY OF 1HZ FLYWHEELS, BUT NOT A 1HDT FLYWHEEL
JUST WONDERING IF THERE THE SAME? ANY HELP/INFO TO SOMEONE THAT WOULD KNOW WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS

They are different due to the fact the clutch on a 1HZ is an 11 inch and the 1HDT clutch is a 12 inch hence different pressure plate mounting holes.
I run a 12 inch clutch from a 4.5 ltr petrol box in my 1HZ. The 1HDT flywheels are hard to find so I just got another 1HZ flywheel drilled to suit the larger pressure plate. You could do this if you get desparate but I got the flywheel drilled at the right price
and thats why I went this way.

Fish, is the bolt pattern the same between the 4.5L petrol and the 4.2L turbo diesel? Thanks,
Dave

Fairly certain they are as they use the same gearbox and both have a 12 inch clutch.

The reason I ask is that the clutch cover has different part numbers between the 4.2L turbo diesel and the 4.5L petrol.
BTW, the 4.5L in the 75 series (FZJ75) has a 275 mm clutch, unlike the 4.5L in 78/80/100 series although it has the 14 spline input. Wonder why?

The bolt and dowel pattern on the 4.5 petrol and 1HDT are the same i know the clutch kits are different part numbers as i know the clutch disc have different damper springs. The gear box bolt patterns are the same on the 12, 14 and 21 spline gear boxes. As the fish said the fly wheel can be remachined and drilled to suit the 12 inch clutch.

Didnt know the 1fz and 1hdt bolt patterns were thesame...do know the ring gear has bigger teeth on the diesel flywheels..... your options are to redrill the 1hz flywheel, or fit a 11 inch plate to the 1hz flywheel...depending on what spline u r using in the box, you can do this pretty easy.
Suggest you run heavy duty clutch such as daycan or Safari tuff clutch.

I am looking at o/hauling my gearbox and putting a new clutch in and a number of people who own toyota's and know what they are on about have all said to get a genunine (SP) toyota clutch, appartently the extra dollars are worth it.

There has been a few bolt patterns discussed and were getting mixed up so i will try and clarify.
Engine Bolt Pattern in 80's there are 3
1/ 1HZ/1DHT/1HFDT(diesel multivalve turbo)
2/ 3F
3/ 1FZ
Clutch pressure plate bolt pattern
1/ 1HZ
2/ 1FZ/1HDT/1HFDT( T/D multi )
3/ 3F
Gear boxcase bolt pattern where belhousing mount to and transfer bolts to are all the same lenght and bolt pattern.
Input shafts
1/ 12 spline 3F engine ( CRAP BOX NO ONE WANTS )
2/ 14 spline 1FZ/1HD/1HFDT ( higher first gear ratio rest are the same as others)this model recieved up dates to the syncro's in 08/1992 for better shifting!
3/ 21 spline 1HZ engine (same gear ratios as 12 spline 3F engine)this model recieved up dates to the syncro's in 08/1992 for better shifting!
Ive had too much liquid and hand fingers arnt doing what i need.

And to add to the confusion,
75 series 4.5L petrol (1FZ) gets an 11 inch clutch with 14 splines
75 series 4.2L diesel (1HZ) gets an 11 in. clutch with 21 splines
80 series 4.5L petrol and 4.2L turbo diesel (1HDT and 1HDFT) get a 12 in. clutch with 14 splines
80 series 4.2L n.a. diesel gets an 11 in clutch with 21 splines.
