Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Guys,

I'm looking at replacing my roof turret, as it's rusted to buggery.

Just chasing some ideas/suggestions as to the best way of going about doing it?

My plan of attack is: get as much a/b/c pillars as I can on the new roof cut (preferrably cut at the doors so I have excess and can work up), and measure down about 6 inches or so from the top of my roof, and cut that off there.

Cut new roof pillars to suit, and sit on in place, and triple check everything before welding (only spot welds to hold it in place for starters)

(It's an 88 GQ Patrol wagon)

I'm not looking forward to doing this, but it needs to be done!

Any pointers/hints/tips etc will be much appreciated

does that RTA allow this stuff

i know it can be done the right way and be safe but i was wondering would the rta allow a car to be registered once this has been done

i've never seen it done before, or done it myself. but wouldnt it be better to chop the pillars at different heights, even at an angle, for added strength? also running rhs up inside the pillars like a sleeve for the join?

if you go to the vicroads (or i might be dotars) website they have guidlines on how to do this correctly , you need to stagger the joins and the stagger on each pillar must be something like 50mm .
this is a very common practice and isnt a very hard job, just make sure you measure correctly and use a thin blade in the grinder

Go to some of the Hot Rod forums, They chop roofs all the time.
Hey while your at it, lower the roof a few inches.
