Where's your CB?

Just getting my first CB radio (a uniden 077 if anyone wants to give me some feedback on this model), and just wondering where is the best place to fit it in my GQ.
The space under the radio in the centre console seems the obvious spot, but the CB is not the same size as the space - so it'd take a fair bit of 'jiggering' to get it in there.
Where do you guys have your CB's installed?

most uhf manufacturers will offer a din kit for their units.
this easily allows you to mount in a standard car stereo size slot.
i got one for my icom awhile back and i think it was only about 20 bucks.

mine is mounted next to my left knee via 1 of the screws that holds the dash on, have a look, u'll see which screws i mean. Havn't had any problems after having it held there with 1 screw after 2 years, hasn't moved a bit. No good if you are big or tall though. I have a GME tx3200.

I have mine mounted in where my ash tray was, as i don't smoke. I made brackets inside and then put a faceir around the cb. Looks great.

Thanks for all those replies guys.
I reckon the ash-tray idea looks good. How & from what did you make the facia Smitty?
Otherwise, by the left knee with one screw looks the go. Nice & easy.

I fitted my UHF into a Ministry of the Interior Dash pod.
I actually bought two, they were preowned and both took AM sets. I modified one to fit my radio. You don't have to look down or up to read the GPS readouts or adjust the radio. Not a big fan of overhead consoles other than for some storage.
The pictures are the the fitted pod and the other is the one I am going to sell. ( on ebay via

I got my Icom IC-400 Pro with a DIN mounting kit - fits right under the factory radio, replacing what was left of the DIN pocket. A front mounted speaker is also standard, so no external speaker neccessary.

I used the ash tray spot for my GPS - so I mounted the head unit under the LHS dash. It's out of the way there. Even though the main unit is mounted unde it - it's temporary as it'll be moved to the centre console soon.

I had this setup once - but removed it the first time I nearly knocked myself unconscious while goimg over a set of wombat holes - i.e. side to side. Apart from being five-nothingh tall - how do you manage to avoid being knocked senseless by your console?

Yep mee too, hit a stump in the grass in my old MK at about 5km/h & cracked my head on the roof console. Not putting one in this car

I'm 6 foot 2 and have never hit my head on it. The profile is quite low. As low as I could make it and still fit the radios in anyway. The only problem I had was finding a suitable mounting system. Soon after I fitted it the whole lot came crashing down, fixed it with some decent captive nuts in the roof lining and has been all good for at least 12 months now.
