same story on a non-turbo, diesel shorty, am interested whether this is a job for the diesel specialist, or at home in the garage, and how it is done.

run some injector cleaner thru it first see if that helps, but you are sayin in another thread(I think it was yours) your motor has no compression you can turn over by hand? This wont help....

run injector cleaner though already, some difference but not much, compression is low etc as you know but I dont have the time or cash spare atm to pull it off the road and rebuild but I want it to last as long as possible without causing to much more damage

thanks Luke, I think it may be down on boost as the bearing in the turbo has a little movement and the power is down a little.

The adjusting srew/bolt that hoonz is talikng about is under the return fuel line If that helps to locate it better
As far as injector clean goes i would use it sparingly as i have been led to beleive that it drys the seals out in the pump which leads to premature leaks
As far as tuning it better yourself i would sugest that if you do rebuild it in time that you fit a boost gauge (if you dont allready have one )and an exhaust temp gauge (pyro) as if you give a little to much fuel the exhaust temp will go through the roof And to clarify hoonz adjusting spec i would go a 1/4 at a time on turning it down as a little could be a lot in fuel wise going through the pump
Im no deisel mech but only know what i have learnt with my own rig through trial and error so hope the info helps

it will be gently does it.......as far as drying the seals out, newer models have Viton seals to cope with the low sulphur diesel and will have no probs with the cleaner, the older nitrile or buna seals are getting dried out every day with the diesel these days and a bit of injector cleaner wont hurt it much more

97 sounds familiar, but it varied, mostly any engines destined for europeon markets as they went to low sulphur diesel years ago, we are now at about 500PPM and going down, I think 2007 it will be at 50PPM and then the old seals will realy start to shit themselves. basically the old seal types need the sulphur for lubricity and without they will start to dry and crack and you will start to notice the fuel pump leaking and at some stage wont pump
