Outer Limits 4x4 Board

i just brought my zook the other week and giving it a good go over i have noticed that it was uesing a lot of fuel and was never ideling high when i started it up in the morning.

when the car is warm the choke is still on its like it is geting stuck

if anyone has had the same prob of something similar some advis would be great.

would i be right in saying that it would use lots of fuel because of the choke being on all the time.

put a weber on it...

auto choke is operated by warm radiator water running through it. try cleaning it out, and make sure water level in rad is ok.
theres been a lot of posts on this subject. type choke into search.

Had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, turned out the wax plug that moves the auto choke had siezed. Had the carby re-conditioned, runs better than ever.

A similar thing is happening with my zook atm, using more petrol then expected and problems with idle at startup (but once warm its ok)

On a recent tuneup by a mechanic he noticed that the idle-up soloniod had been removed at some stage and the idle jet was missing. Now im not the best with carbies but with with these missing i figured it would still run, just be using more fuel since its running off the main jet full time, and wouldnt idle-up when lights etc were turned on. Is this correct?

idle jet missing? i would not think it would run at all.

another question when the car is warm does the flap in the carby ment to be fully opened or parshaly

When were auto chokes fitted to Sierras? Mine is a '90 and has a manual choke.

i know of a 86 model with auto choke.

dont know when they can out with one

ok i have been playing around with the choke and carby and havent had any change i have noticed that the choke plate dosnt open when the car is warm does anyone knoe how to fix this problem.

do the water pipes that go into and out of the carb all get warm, if so water is flowing thru properely, and so some other cause is culprit..
If not, the auto choke is blocked, and needs flushing out.

there is some adjustments, scews to change when it comes on and how far it goes, should be easy to check if these have moved.

the pipes get warm and that seems to be right.

but that peace of metal witch has teath on it that does not go down that seems to be the problem.

I had the same problem on my I-Zook: The choke didn´t open.
Instead of fixing the problem, I went around it; I installed a Manual choke kit. Maybe not the best fix there is but it works and in any case I´ll be changing engines soon, so I took the easy route. Had a bit of a problem though finding a Manual choke kit in these days of fuel injected engines.
