winch control box question

i would like to mount the winch control module without the cover on it as indicated by the photo below.
i assume from the amount of mud ive scraped out of it when i pulled it apart that their quite weather resistant and dispite not having a cover in its new position it will be some 400mm higher than previous.
in saying so would it be unwise to mount it as indicated ?
thankyou in advance.
nathan.

nath, I would try to make cover of some sort, maybe a jaycar box or similar, your pretty handy you will be right, the box may let shit in, but there is still an element of protection in having it there

You can leave the cover off however do not forget you have 12V running though those solenoids and you wouldn’t want anything coming in close contact that may create a short.

i wouldnt recomend it
UNLESS you had some thing covering the top half to prevent tools touching the big terminals
the box being open isnt a problem just the thought of your tools arcing out

if your going to make a cover it would be wise to make one from some type of plastic that will crush and not crack to bits! if something metal flys through your grill if you ass end some other vehicle and theres a fuel leak and arcing going on it could be a prob! i know its a worse case scenario but people do run up the clacker of other cars without it being there fault! just a thought anyway

Keep the cables short and it is handy to have the box easy to get to for maintainence or troubleshooting.
I have had mine inside and outside. It has now returned to outside in std position.
