Problems with my zook

I have an 87 lwb leafy zook and I have been getting vibrations throughout the whole car at around 50-65km/h. On the way back from a camping trip a little while ago the vibrations got alot worse as i was driving at around this speed, the 4wd/2wd gear stick was shaking quite abit until the drive-shaft dropped off at the transfer-case end. The 4 bolts holding it on have just snapped. I was also unable to engage 4wd for a few days before this happened.
Thankfully the exhaust pipe hangs under the drive-shaft on my zuk and stopped the drive-shaft from dropping the front end to the ground and causing a crash. The car still starts and is alright engine-wise but cannot engage any gear in 2wd or 4wd.
I have been told that this could all be a problem with the transfer-case and am looking for a new one now. If this isn't the problem, any advice would be very helpful as I am keen on getting my zook running again ASAP.

Were the bolts possible loose before and because of vibrations they have snapped

Try spin the box by hand to see it it feels ok

I’m pretty sure that the bolts weren’t loose but it could b possible because the length of time that it has been vibrating could maybe loosen one bolt which could have thrown it off balance and stressed the others but I cant see any bends in whats left of the bolts but that could just be because there is only about 3mm left of them to look at.
I tried spinning the box in neutral and I could spin it and it didn’t make any grinding noise or anything like that and it felt smooth.
I have a strong feeling that it is a transfer-case problem though because I cannot move the 4wd/2wd gear stick at all whatever I try to do with it but the stick could just be stuck or broken, I’ll have to pull it apart before I know for sure

hmm

Lift the stick up a bit and then move between 2wd and 4wd. sounds like the shifter sheet has gone that is below the transfer lever.

take lever out and have a look at the rubber bit below it.

a seach on here for shifter sheet is also good to do.

cheers

could be possible that it is two different problems..transfer may not shifting coz shifter bush is stuffed (seems to be a fairly common problem) and the vibrations could be caused from a bent driveshaft. Do you remember hearing any loud bangs offroad before the noise appeared? Just what it sounds like it may be to me...

Could it be a Uni on the tailshaft completely letting go?

no, i dont remember any bangs or anything like that, i think the driveshaft is alright but ill have a good look at that today

Im pretty sure that the uni joints are alright aswell but i'll check it out

I'm going to be pulling up a bit of the floor today and getting under the gearstick to have a look to see if anything has moved around and hopefully i'll find whats wrong

I bought a 1lt case and have been changing the flanges etc over the last few days and it should be all finished today. The problem ended up being a rubber ring just under the shifter that had broken down but I had already bought the 1lt case before I knew that the problem was so small, so I thought I might as well use the lower gearing anyway.
Thanks to everyone for the help

G'day

There are no vibrations any more, I think that was just the bolts loosened or something which eventually caused the breaking of the studs. The only thing wrong with the case was a small rubber ring that had broken down a bit and somehow made me unable to engage any gears.
The 1lt case I have in now is great, the low-range is sweet.
