G'day all,
i was wondering if anyone here has any advice on the strength of dana 30 diffs?
what kind of abuse they have handled, and how they have been broken.
i am not using this diff in a 4x4, but rather my street car, so not all info will be relevant, but all will be appreciated.
Cheers

Well how's about that.....
Anyhow my front Dana30 has taken a reasonable pounding - but they are NOT a strong diff.
The R&P are tiny.
The tubes aren't exactly strong either.
Personally if you were looking to put some HP through it - I'd replace it...

I have seen a few axles go, all running 35 simexs 2 after being getting air and landing with 130kw being bumped into them and the other on full lock stuck in a rut, never heard of a ring and pinion leting go.

I have - a few.
Admittedly one was up at the cape.....
Also we're talking rear application where IMHO the size of the R&P would come into play much more.....

what sort of car, what sort of HP, what sort of use? Custom application or is it stock? Open or locked diff? What diff ratio
If you can provide enough info to cover all bases you'll probably get more appropriate answers

hey there,
i already have one in my car, but someone has asked how much power they can handle.... so i thought i would ask.
i have a 77 celica, fitted with a 1ggte and single turbo. it is making 200kw at the wheels at the moment. centre is welded. - car weighs slightly over 1000kg. the car is used for street and drag... and the diff has handled some pretty big launches on slicks so far......
i have spoken to a few people who have usedthem in race applications before, was just after more information from people with experience.
Cheers

What ratio. a 3.07 (eg) is much beefie than say a 4.56 or 4.88 that we commonly have in our Dana30's (to run bigger tyres).
