Lads,

I wanna get 33" tyres but I wonder if I would be better off with them on 15 or 16 inch rims

and what crown wheel and pinions sets can I get for my 3.5l NJ?

What say you?

All 3.5 V6's have a 4.636 ratio.
You can upgrade to a 4.90 as found in the 2.8 TDI's.
Thats all you can do for your model.
But a 3.5 especially a 5sp should turn 33"s just fine with the 4.636 ratio.

Thanks fellas but i noticed a power drop when I went from 29s to 31s so I assumed that the jump to 33s would be similar - I worked out that I need 1:5.11s to get my original performance back

any advice on the 15" or 16" wheel question?

My personal preference is for 15".
The reason for this is more rubber around the rim for impact resistance and more rubber to bag out when airing down for traction.
Then there is cost aftermarket 15" rims are much cheaper than 16".

Yeah,

I thought that the 15s would be better off road and the 16s better on

I allready have 15x7 but I bet i'll need wider for 33s

thanks

What ever you do stay away from 16.5 rims. They have almost no safety lip on the back side the of the wheel, so you will be blowing beads left and right.

My 3.5 drives fine with 33's, gas is another story all together.

I run 15x8's. Depends on the with of the tire. A 12.50 on a 7 inch rim might cause it to crown a little and wear funny but I am not sure. They are fine on 15x8's.

Hi,

I run 33 x 10.5 BFG's on the factory 7 inch rim. Turning them is no problem, a little less than the 31's but still gets up and boogies.

Cheers, Glen

Yeh both the AT and MT are available in 33x10.5x15.
Dino used to have a set of the ATs in 33x10.5, I dont think he comes on
here these days though, or you might find him in the toyota section, hes
running around in a 100 series now.

The 10.5 width replaced the 9.5 in the BFG 33 inch line up. Mine are MT's and are on the factory rims so fit well within the guards.

I really like the 10.5 width, i will just add that the narrower section does suit what I use them for rather than a 12.5, but horses for courses.

I run a 255/85/16 (narrow 16') tyre and think it a great compromise.
I have the 2.5 ITD engine so didn't want to have to turn a wide tyre BUT still wanted the height.

I went for the 16' rim as even aired down I get an additional 1/2' under body clearance over the 15' rim.

The problem is that there are only 2 different tyres to choose from in this size.
BFG mt and cooper ST.

Thanks one and all

If I can get BFG MT 33s at 10.5 on 15s that'll do fine

my 10.5 31s needed flares as it is so if I can avoid going any wider that'll be good
