And some guy in the USA wants to buy it but also wants me to arrange transport, so far the emails have only stated..

thats it, no mention of money or anything, no mention of his mates cheque or anything like that, could this be legit, or what, how would I get it over there and at what cost?

It might be worthwhile to call a couple of large companies who deal internationally. Maybe Toll, or Patricks.

If he wants it i would suggest he should get some prices he could just be farking you around.

Sounds like a scam to me, be careful...

don't send anything untill payment is made in full. call some shipping company's (not toll or anything, they are retail, and are way exxy) and ask about sending a 20' container to the US.
ask sierrajim about it, he should know someone who sends stuff back.

I'd be getting him to organise shipping as the hassles and details would be at his end when it lands. You would need to find out how they wanted it shipped, how it would need to be cleaned. A lot of paper work but not imposible. As suggested maybe PM sierrajim and he can point you in the right direction.

maybe also Australian Muscle Cars as they send Falcons over there but will need a cut on the deal.

45 Series Troop Carrier This is a longer wheelbase version of the 40. This truck was spotted in Costa Rica. This style was not generally available in the USA although some were imported discreetly. Australia got their first FJ45 troopies in 1976, these were all soft top models with full hard doors. No diesel models until mid 1979 when the H series 6 cylinder diesel was introduced and a hard top model designated HJ45 arrived. It had 2 body options, 11 seat capacity or 3 seater, hardtop roof was full length fiberglass. All hardtops had "ambulance" rear doors, Nippondenso "factory underdash air" was an option. Around 1981 the HJ47 was released with the 2H diesel, padded dash and a change of color schemes. The HJ47 model continued until about late 1984.

Be very careful mate, an old friend of mine got right royally BONED on a vehicle he brought out of the states and imported, same thing could potentially happen to you. Also be sure to check that you are not subject to any duties or taxes for selling it OS, I would doubt it, but might pay to check?

i would tell them to arrange a price for frieght , tell them you will arrange dropping it of at the freight company , and thats it , make sure payment is in cleared funds b4 you send it.

I sold my BJ40 on eBay to a Pom.
He organised the Freight from England, and all I had to do, was drop it off at Grace Brothers in Nerre Warren.

I did get a Quote of about $3,800 for just Shipping.

I priced a 1500kg yacht in a 40 foot container from usa to oz, $3400 usd. Can send you a copy if you wish.

The most popular scam in the USA has been an overseas buyer pretending to buy a vehicle from you. When the price has been agreed (or the auction closes) the ruse is that the buyer has a client, a mate, a business partner, etc., who supposedly owes the buyer money, who will send you a cashiers cheque or money order for an amount greater than the selling price.

When the cheque arrives, you are to send the buyer the excess amount by Western Union or some such service where once your money is sent, there is no way of cancelling or retrieving it. Then in 2 or 3 weeks your bank calls as they find out the cheque you received is a fake. Now the buyer has your money and you are left holding a worthless piece of paper. He is not really interested in your car, just your money.

I am not saying the interested party who wrote you is out to scam you. Yes, troopies are very rare in the USA, but most of the time it is the dreamers who write these queries. A serious party would have done more research into what is involved with shipping a vehicle across an ocean, who to contact for shipping, where to drop off the vehicle, etc.

Ask him if he knows what is involved getting a 1983 troopie into the US. Anything newer than a 1981 is near impossible to import into the country due to our import laws. In many states, petrol vehicles are subject to exhaust emission requirements, which this one will most certainly not have as beginning in 1979, US landcruisers had catalytic converters and a whole host of emission equipment added. Even if the buyer follows through with the purchase and buys the vehicle with real money, the vehicle will most likely get impounded at the port. It will have to be reexported or destroyed.

BTW, I found out the other guy Chris has been active in the US cruiser community, so I doubt if he is really planning to pull off a scam.

I'm a member of a trailer yacht site and I think we have a scamer in contact now. He has basicly asked to do teh above about sending teh balance owing by Western Union. You have to read his posts as they are hiliarous.

If you go ahead, make sure you ship it freight prepaid and using an original bill of lading, this means you make him pay for freight and purchase price in advance and he will only get the vehicle once you have received payment and he lodges the orignal bill with the shipping line.

Yikes, $1400 to ship an engine to the US !!!!! I can ship them for around $350-400 and that includes the cost of a fully enclosed crate !!!!!!

I shipped a complete Troopie back to Japan and it was around $A3000 in its own container.

As far as payment goes, you don't ship until you have payment and its been cleared or paid via direct deposit. Its no big deal.
