Who's running them?

Does anyone have a low tread one for a spare or a low set for sale?

This will be my 2nd set, use to run them on my Rover Hybrid and Rangie with Chev. Before them I had BFG's in 32 and 35s Silverstone MT117 35's and 9/34 Swampers. Since then 35 proComp Muds, 35 Trxus swamper Radials, 35 11.5 Simex Pedes.

Have one new Q78 on an Allied Steel Beadlock, waiting for the next 3 Tyres to get here and mount to the Beadlocks.

Hopefully can get a low spare or buy a low set to distribute through a few others looking for spare tyres. If not will buy a 5th New one and rotate. Hate wearing 4 tyres and then having a new spare.

First time I am buying the same tyre in the same size for a second time :?

Yeah that's what i do. I have five even and rotate them. I only put them on for hardcore W/E's or comp's so it's easy to rotate whem they're on and off all the time.

I am in Burwood Melbourne.

The in joke was that Darren was trying to get me to run 16 x 10 Allied Beadlocks and13/36 x 16 Swampers but I am being a tight arse buying 15 x 8 Steel Beadlocks and Q78's.

It depends on whether you have a tyre placard or not.

Pre 1973(ish!) for "road" cars and sometime in the early eighties for full commercials was when mandatory placards were introduced. This placard will state the relevant ADR and a minimum speed load rating.

If you have (or had) one of these, swampers are not legal.

I have seen a number of 80's suzukis with no placard, only pressure guidelines. hehehe

I am aware of an early rangie hybrid sucussfully engineered on swampers because it was old enough to not have any reference to the ADR for speed and load rating.

Swampers are DOT E4 rated (This is a US department of transport approval for highway use) - they are perfectly safe for use on road, but do not carry an "Australian" format load or speed rating making them illegal for any car with a ADR tyre placard.

Tyres not safe for road use under the US DOT system have "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE" on the sidewalls.

Ironically, every tyre manufactured for road use in the world will have the DOT E4 mark on it - even the 17" run flats on our Mini!

jason try bill at anthony's (british 4x4)
he had about 6 spare q78's a while ago.
he only runs them on one end with pedes on the other end.
they used to be stacked in the corner of nigels old workshop.

36 x 13/16 TSL's on 10" rims have been the best combo Ive tried in the 36" size.

Tread blocks on the TSL 36 x 13 so I found they gripped better than the q78, were more stable on side slopes etc, especially at lower pressures, and that was what I was trying to talk LOCKEE into when he ordered the beadlocks. ;)
