Flat spot

I'd like to pick some brains.
My TD42 Turbo wagon has a flat spot?
As i drive along using about 1/4 throttle, its fine.
If i drive along on 1/4 throttle then as it revs out(2000rpm+)
i put my foot down it it hessitates,so i back of and its picks up
agian.
The local diesel shop we use for work suggests my fuel pump can't
keep up and to put a electric pump in to help my main pump.
Does this sound right?.
Anybody had the same prob's.
And...How do i fix it.

Cheers Ian.

Thanks for that,
I've done the thinble thing, not there already gone.
I will replace the fuel filter, its only about 3mths old.
It doesnt seem to blow much black smoke, just a puff at take off,
maybe not enough fuel from the fuel pump.
Maybe i need to get turned up/tuned.

Firstly,Thanks for replie's people.
Finally got our workshop foreman to drive/look at it,(Mack dealership.)
He seams to think it not getting enough fuel after
3000rpm.
So todays job is to replace fuel filter and test,
if no good, try extra elec fuel pump to see if it makes a diffrence.
(i already hav a fuel pump left over from last toy.)

If you mean the screen filter/thimble, Yes i checked that

Our injection service people is pretty sure that they only
came out about 1995 onwards.
Hope this helps.
